Kind of a "megalomania" thing. But I also think the McNeese community isn't the only community that things that.

I think we all would say that ULL has done better in its overall athletic programs. Football? That's different. I'd say that most would say that since USL (back then) made the decision to stay I-A back in the early 80s and McNeese made the decision to move to I-AA at the time McNeese has had the better football team during most of the years. Also, though we recognize that ULL has had some good records in recent years, we also recognize that their wins have come against weak FBS teams. Last year, for instance, the teams ULL beat finished rated 95th, 103rd, 71st, 74th, 116th, 90th, 122nd, and 80th among 125 FCS teams according to the "average" of ratings at http://www.masseyratings.com/cf/arch/compare2013-16.htm. I can't get to the final FCS ratings for last year at that site but the other win was against the team that finished 72nd in the FCS Sagarin ratings. In other words: ULL fashioned a nice record by beating weak FBS teams that were not outside of the range of what one might expect to encounter in FCS. I think most recognize that ULL has been a lot better the past three years than it was when McNeese played them in 2007. Also that was a very good McNeese team. It was devastated by injury by the end of the season but when ULL played them they were loaded. They'll have to be lucky to have that good a team in 2016. But it's not like playing Nebraska this year or LSU next year. It's just not and I think you guys know that. ULL, from our standpoint, has over the past three years basically been equivalent in caliber to a top 25 FCS team. A tough opponent from McNeese's standpoint. But not "out of their league" in terms of caliber.

Academics? I don't know. I've never seen what I think is a valid ranking of the academic value of universities. What you'd need is some measure of actual output; some measure of how well prepared students of given incoming ability are upon graduation. And so far I haven't seen that. All I know is that I have worked with people from all sorts of places from the Ivy league to small State schools (like McNeese) including a pretty good number of USL/ULL graduates and have not personally seen any indication that I've been at a disadvantage in terms of preparation by virtue of having gone to McNeese EXCEPT that certain universities are such that the name itself gives the person an advantage. It's kind of a "self fulfilling prophecy" thing. Like I have a colleague that has Bachelors and Masters Engineering Degrees from Cornell. But, frankly, if I compare her to a guy I worked with who had a Bachelors from Louisiana Tech there is no question in my mind as to who I came off as thinking was better prepared. And it wasn't the lady from Cornell.

It pains me to say that but it's the truth. Yet I guarantee you when people see "Cornell" next to that lady's name she's going to have an advantage over someone with "Louisiana Tech" next to their name.

The way I look at it is this: The Ivy League gets a fraction of the top 1% in terms of ability to begin with. Then when they get out they have an advantage because they've got an Ivy League degree. The name matters. So you can't really say the Ivy League actually provides the best education just because its graduates are very successful. Most of them were probably genius level IQ to begin with and they also have the "name" on the degree. but you don't really know that someone who's in that top fraction of 1% in terms of ability gets a better education at Harvard than they would at Southeastern Louisiana. It's kind of like giving credit to Hussein Bolt's high school track coach (if there are high school track coaches where he came from) for his 100 meter time. The reality is who coached him has very little to do with it. He's just very talented innately.
I have no idea who you are referring to or why you would put that on this board. I can assure you that no one on this board who has ever gone to or supported a school that goes by ULL. All that you said sounded good I just had no idea who you were talking about.

Yes you do. And you know that's part of it. The whole "UL" thing when the school is the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (i.e., ULL). It's part of the school community thinking the school is something it's not thing. I'm not saying that just to inflame you. The whole "ULL" vs. "UL" thing is part of why just about EVERYBODY in this State outside of the school's community looks at the supporters of the school having a "thinking the school is something it's not" thing.

It's fine if you want to continue with it. But I know you already know that it has that effect. In fact the whole Lafayette community, regardless of how nice and good it may be, is kind of the butt of jokes everywhere else in Louisiana because of it. I'm just telling you the truth and I think that really you know it's the truth. It affects the perception of the school within Louisiana. Now, I understand if you wish to persist nevertheless. Maybe it's true that what the rest of Louisiana thinks about your school calling itself what it calls itself is not as important as what you think can be achieved by your school doing that.

I'm just honestly telling you about the perception of people outside. It's not other people feeling superior per se. It's people looking at what they see as megalomania associated with your school. The "thinking they're something they're not" thing.

Here is the but of all jokes. A girl as me to kiss where it stinks, so I brought her to Lake Charles or was it Ruston, no maybe Monroe. Now that is a joke, don't come here and tell us how we are suppose to feel or act.

Excuse me....we have a University in Ruston that officially refers to itself as "The Flagship of North Louisiana" and it is UL supporters and our University suffering from megalomania? You come onto this board and take us to task for bettering ourselves and referring to ourselves in a manner that we deem fitting and we suffer from megalomania? Leave and go back to that dumpster fire of a city and University. We do not give a damn how you refer to yourselves. Leave us alone...

The sheer thought of someone from Lake Chuck or Ruston lecturing anyone else about how the rest of the state perceives them... Hold on, I'm trying to keep it together... And then implying that there's something wrong with Lafayette in general?! Lmfao..

    Dude, that's comic gold.

My favorite "Lafayette is the butt of the jokes"..
    Can't breathe..

Thou I've never attempted, we've seen several posts about people attempting to join the mac n cheese site and getting booted.

Nothing like a use to be wanna be run down pos make believe "college" competing with Barbe for press coverage crying about channel 7 (Lake Charles-Lafayette) covering UL (oops yup they did use UL a few times) LSU butt smooching best they could offer Dumars was a used Camaro living in the past from a run down future ghost town and off stunt doubles for jack o lanterns dropping coins in slot machines best known nationally for a death trap bridge over the small colon of east Texas fan base coming to this site acting holier than thou. Yeah, I know it's a ____ing run on sentence, but I think I made my point.

Give the broke back and his sheep the boot. Enjoy the state budget cuts next year (yes, was in the news yesterday) enjoying watching their ilk die a slow death on the vine. Just like ULMost and Grambling.

    It just doesn't happen anymore.

The last one I remember was Idaho going to Idaho State...and that's when Idaho moved up to FBS and that game was already contracted.
---jay I forgot the year---well maybe the decade ---but there was a press conference and Stokley was asked about the McNeese series---He said that we could play them in the future but all the games would have to be at Cajun Field---Got a few thoughts from both sides and I called it the Stokley Doctrine and I think it still applies---yes we will play occasionally, but always in Lafayette!!!

Phahaha!!! Not sure who all in Louisiana you referring to but I happen to know plenty who have no association with our university and are, at the least, impressed at how far we have come.
Sorry to see you wasted your time embellishing how you wish the whole state of Louisiana would actually feel. Nice try though. I'll up my RCAF donations next year to make sure ppl like you stay mad. Geaux UL!

Of all the McNeese fans I have ever been associated with, you have the largest case of little man syndrome I have ever seen. Enjoy our football season this year.
