uhhh... We had Chery, Desermoux, Fenroy. They beat us.

And we had Rickey Bustle, who had no killer instinct and find not heed the warning of fans as to the stakes in thus game. Mcneese spent their entire offseason preparing for that opening game. Rickey took it as just another tune up game (remember his almost annual quote about the "real season" once non-conference play was over) and paid the price for it.
It should have been a tune up game but it wasn't. They beat us, they were better. We didn't have a bad team either.
Not trying to take anything away from their team. They were the better team that day. They came ready to play and our team didn't. But play that game 10 times and I think the results would have been different.
BTW, one of their biggest boosters and double naught spies that likes to talk _____e about UL list seminars attended at UL on his LinkedIn profile. Hypocrite wants to put this University down but tries to associate himself with it to fluff up his resume.
McNeese went 11-0 that year.
3-9 is bad, a hair above terrible. When were we "good" under Bustle? 6 wins is meh. 7 -8 wins is good. 9-10 FBS wins is very good. 11-12 is exceptional. 13 is heavenly.
Never made it past meh with Bustle.
