Turbine, the flag (probably not this particular flag) was one of the trophies the game. The team that won got to keep it until the game the next season.

Brings back some fun times though. If I still had my, GO TO HELL MCNEESE, shirt I would wear it to the game. It's still a fun game for me. There will be a nice crowd. I remember seeing a sign in LC when I went for a game back then, it said, "may the worse team lose", it may just apply again this time. GEAUX CAJUNS

One of the stories I read that highlighted the rivalry was when some McNeese students kidnapped UL's Bulldog.

Of course they returned it no harm no foul all in fun was the prevailing attitude at the time.

It was like a game trophy. The reverse side ULOL is on top and MSU is on the bottom. The winner would keep the flag and keep it faced where whoever won was on top. They'd bring it to alumni parties and other events.
