I feel an upset in the making. 27-23 UL. Nail biter at the end. Defense makes a great stand to hold off Boise at the end. AJ has a decent day and manages well with his arm and legs. Nothing spectacular but effective. EM busts a few long runs but grinds most of the day. Wild card is Raymond Calais. He will electrify the crowd with his kickoff returns.

This might be because I'm extremely biased, but I think the Cajuns play well enough to win Saturday. We're coming in with a talented defensive backfield and depth on D. I believe Anthony Jennings is a good college QB that was in the wrong system at LSU. He belongs in the spread option offense that we run. We now have a great 1-2 punch with Jennings and Eli. Talented receivers. First home game. May not be happy about the game time, but I think we get better attendance than expected. I'm not expecting to come out with a win on Saturday, but that's why you play the game. See you all out there Saturday!

31-28 UL upsets Bosie St. I feel like this will be just like the UL vs U of H game. U of H was favored & UL surprised them

Still one of my fondest Cajun football memories. Totally unexpected win. Especially since Houston built an easy digit lead on us early.

The Cougars went 10-4 that year, beat Oki State early in the season, won CUSA but lost to Sourh Carolina in the Liberty Biwl. Guys like Jackie Battle and Kevin Kolb were on that Art Briles coached team.

Brian, Jake, Henry, Dersomeaux, Babb, Gauthier, and pre injury Broadway are a salty group. You're placing Jennings in the top of that group without ever playing a down for UL?

I guess what one of the best ever means, but to me top three or four. I'm thinking he's not going to be top seven at his position.

Doesn't mean he won't do well, just not all that.

Defensive line. Completely speculation. Too many new faces and average guys to get excited. Same for the offensive line. If the new guys are good and returners show outstanding growth we may have something.

Yeah, but not one of the QB's you named had as much to prove as AJ. His motivation to prove his naysayers wrong as well as his desire to showcase his skills to Cajun Nation and rest of college football fandom is off the charts.

A poised, talented and confident QB makes all the difference in the world! Look at what happened to us last year! We did not have a good answer after losing TB. Look at the difference losing a stud QB makes in this game....Romo & Manning's teams became losers immediately. Yeah, I know, that's the NFL, but you get my drift.

I'll go out on a limb and say AJ's going to break single season records if can stay injury free. He impressed the hell out of me during the last scrimmage. His release is a thing of beauty. He spins the ball really well which makes it easier to catch. He has great touch too! Something JN and JD haven't shown. And, based on what I expect we'll see with our passing game, touch and accuracy will be key factors in it's success. Lots of quick throws underneath coverage, in the flats, bubbles, quick slants and I hope a variety of screen plays.

His mechanics are far better than TB, BG, MD, BM and JB. Jake and Roy were naturals throwing the rock, but AJ has a quicker release. I know the knock on him was accuracy while at lsu, but I didn't see that at the scrimmage. I understand he's been working with Jake on his mechanics since coming over and wow, it shows.

If we can give a little protection, he will get it out quickly. He was easily the most decisive of the 3 QBs during the last scrimmage. And, both JN and JD looked VERY GOOD, in fact that was the best JD has looked to me since joining the team. I don't see every practice, but he looked very good going to his first target, but still struggled some in dropping down to his second, third reads. The competition raised his level, but not enough to get the starting nod. And regarding JN, don't discount the experience he got last season. If and when he's under center (so to speak, because it never freaking happens in our offense!) this season, I expect to see a much more poised player QB who will give us quality minutes. I'm pulling hard for him!

OK...enough, I'm getting a little too geeked writing about this! I know we took a big step back last year offensively, but a big part of that was due to some very spotty QB play. I won't be surprised to see us putting up big numbers this season.

Brett Rypien is a very special QB and McWeapon (RB Jeremy McNichols) is an all around pounding running back with breakaway speed. He also has great hands coming out of the backfield (started as a wideout). With receivers, Sperbeck, Anderson, Wilson and Ogbebor and our deep stable of tight ends I think we are going to be tough on every defense we face this year.

Losing to Boise State in your opening game is not really that bad of a thing to happen. Just ask Virginia Tech, Oregon and Georgia. When we beat them in the Kickoff Classics they went on to win the ACC, PAC and SEC championships respectively. So lets see you be the next and move on to win the Sun Belt Conference Championship after your opening game stumble.

So as the Boise State homer I am I'm going to predict 45 - 21 Boise State victory.

I'm not expecting a win, but want to see us be competitive all game. It won't be the end of the world, that's for sure, besides we have a "can't lose" game next Saturday. If we are 1-1 after our first 2 games, I'll happily take the W in week 2.

I've been a closet Boise St fan for 10 years. Always admired the audacity of the program. After Saturday (as long as Harsin doesn't pull any shenanigans like he did at Ark St), you'll have a fan in me.

I don't think Boise scores that many. We will rack up some yards on the ground. If you watched Jennings at LSU it's obvious that he will be every bit as good as Broadway and Gautier. He's got the best arm of any Cajun QB I can remember, his accuracy remains a question mark. Mark my words, we rush for close to 200 yards Saturday. I still think it won't be enough but will eat up enough clock to keep the game close.

Quite a few Boise Fans are heading down. Unfortunately my wife wanted to go to the Hawaii game in November so we had to forgo yours. I have family in Lake Charles so pretty familiar with the area.
