AAU has completely killed High School and College basketball. No if's, and's, or but's about it. It's TERRIBLE street ball with a "look at me" mentality.

This is absolutely the problem. Most of the AAU world is sleazy. Check out the book "Play their hearts out." My boys played AAU ball and had a pretty positive experience but we saw some of the bad side as well.
When ESPN starts showing good ball reversal, rebounding and help defense as Top 10 plays, basketball will start to improve.
Ill ask again, which programs should UL try to emulate? Who is doing what you think we should be doing?
So just give up huh? Is basketball some alien sport played on another planet? Why can we not compete for a conference championship every year? Like wku or georgia state? Hell how bout once every 8 years would be a good place to start. The goal of every sport should be to compete for your conference championship. Baseball and softball do and HUD sure gets his balls busted about not winning the sunbelt...but not ole Bob, ole Bob got it so bad here with all his disadvantages...he coaches the most storied program here. You are acting like this guy is hanging banners and people are just busting his chops.
I agree that should be our goal but I am also realistic enough to know that consistent success is tough at this level.
GSU has 1 conference title. WKU has lots but its been awhile if I remember correctly.
I believe you were responded to well in what has changed in basketball. But as far as there still being outdoor NFL stadiums... just the building of one additional indoor football facility makes 8 regular season games played indoors. Kicking accuracy has plenty of reasons to show improvement that free throw shooting does not.
