Is the problem with Ray, or Hud? Is Hud reluctant to start a Freshman because the risk is too great? It's clear Hud thinks he has to win now (not for the fanbase, his career prospects), and he clearly doesn't want to take the risk. Similar to Haack in 2015. He didn't want to risk changing the offense to highlight Haack strengths, instead he kept the offense the same and tossed Haack in, and knew it would be Nixon time before too long.
Decades of losing seasons and mediocre football. Hud, along with Gautier and co. got us to a 9-4 season with a Bowl win. In comes Broadway (under him as a starter, we have 3 more consecutive 9 win season with Bowl wins) and he leaves as the #2 passer in history with 7500+ yards passing and roughly 2000 yrds rushing......we were on the map (outskirts of cracking top 25....no?)
They "looked" good last year. And the year before. And the year before. The rubber will meet the road in a big way when we stack up game one against a team that ate our ___ and asked for seconds just one year ago. How much are you willing to wager that the offensive line problems are a thing of the past? How confident are you?
I don't care if Hud is working for HIS FUTURE ONLY. This means he wants to win NOW. Regardless of how it gets done that means his pushing all his chips to the middle and going for it, right? Cross next years bridge when you get there. We are still recruiting yearly, why does it matter if you plug in a few transfers here and there to make your team stronger. We want Hud to get a promotion out of Lafayette, right? That means we're on a steady uptick as a program and we can hopefully backfill with another up and coming, hungry coach who sees potential in a football recruiting hot bed.
QB play can attribute to lack of offensive line success. If our QB can't use progressions effectively and always eyes one target (....Nixon), then you blitz the house and we look foolish. If your QB doesn't effectively utilize his legs (.....Haack) in an offense designed for it, you again get sacked because the o-line isn't designed to hold blockers that long...... It's a lot bigger picture than just hogs blocking. Our scheme was off, our QB's were not the right fit, etc....
I think with effective roll outs and screens, Jennings will flourish. If the O-Line can't hold for a few seconds than you design plays to get outside the tackles.
