Coordinator cites spring game for adding Anthony Jennings, head coach explains why Davis wasn't named No. 1 in spring
Looks like rumors of his imminent transfer have been greatly exaggerated:
He scoffs, in fact, at a message-board suggestion that he might leave UL for another program before school starts if Jennings were to be named the starter.
“I don’t know who would say anything of that nature,” Davis said. “So, that’s never been said or anything. Not even a consideration, or nothing.
“This is my home, this is my family. Like I said, I’m going to work the hardest I can in order to get the starting job, just like the other two competitors (Jennings and Nixon) will do the same thing and that will be their mindset.”
those faceless baffons are back at it again
Impossible...nobody reads this
who here thought he was hurt just reading the headline?
I stated that several weeks back, he said similar things to me in a text. Sometimes people just assume that would be a natural reaction because he would feel betrayed by the staff. The difference in this situation is that many of our players have seen Jennings win games in the SEC, they want to win regardless of which QB is starting next month. He has instant credibility and Davis understands it.
If Davis is smart, he's already figured out how much knowledge he stands to gain from Jennings.
Davis might want to be like a fine wine. It takes time to make a good one. Davis will have his shot and if he is not rushed, he might just have time for the light bulb to activate.
I just hope that if Jennings is named the starter, should UL be fortunate enough to get a significant lead or put a few games away fairly early, that Hud will allow Davis to get in the game and get some live game experience so that he can have additional game experience under his belt going into next season.
IMHO, I don't think this staff has done a very good job getting our young QB's enough game experience in some games when they have had the opportunity to do so. Then we go into the next season claiming the new possible starter has talent, but lacks game experience. I think it is important to get the best players into the game, but also give younger players experience when the opportunities are there.
I said it early on last season. We should have given Davis the keys and let him learn on the job. As it were, we got nothing accomplished last season.
Now, I was in favor of bringing in Jennings due to Davis still not being ready. However, if there ever was a scenario where a 2-QB system would be favorable, it would be this year. Davis STILL needs to see as many live plays as possible, yet we still need to try and win these games.
I'm guessing we'll see Jennings early, and if we get behind, expect to see Davis in relief. It will go this way until Jordan shows he is the man.
He has zero knowledge to gain from Jennings. Both are on the field for their athletic gifts, not cerebral gifts.
Davis can only gain knowledge by playing, being coached, and review of films on what he did right and what he did wrong. Watching Jennings isn't going to do a damned thing for him.
