I think our defense is the real question mark this year. We are going to be young on the line. We are bringing at least 3 true freshman d linemen on the trip and any or all could play. Our starters have some experience but after that it will be interesting. IMO the defensive back suspensions are big. We have very little game time for the back-ups and are looking at a true freshman playing. On a positive note, we have switched to a 4-3 defense this year from the 4-2-5 we have ran the last couple of years. Our linebackers are the strength of the D. I believe our offense is going to be good enough to average 40 a game this year, so I hope the defense only gives up 35 until they get some experience. As for Harsin, I have noticed a few comments about him. I am curious as if you know something about him down there that we don't know up here in Idaho. Up here, he is popular, but I have seen a few comments on his hands on approach. As I'm sure you know, he was the play caller in the 07 and 10 Feista Bowls. We have had 5 offense coordinators in the last 6 years. Our play calling in the last 5 years has been very inconsistent. This summer Harsin announced he was taking over the play calling this year. I think people are excited here to see if we can get back to the offense BSU fans have grown accustomed to. Anyway, any insight into Harsin from down there would be an interesting read for fans in Boise.
I've had a few conversations with some displaced Bronco fans around the country and they seem to be down on Harsin. The most popular reason was his unnecessary aggressiveness at times, which segways into our experiences with him, just in a little bit different way. Harsin allows or coaches his kids to play dirty. Especially in close games. His Ark St teams would consistently take cheap shots in the SBC.
I think this would be very new news to people in Boise. I am a season ticket holder, so I haven"t missed many home games and try to get to as many away games as possible. I haven"t seen that type of play in his 2 years here. I will admit, he is very intense and will get in his players face if they screw up and that player is usually on the bench. Example, BYU game last year, DB gets a PF for arguing with the ref, Hars pulls him and puts in backup. Next play, TD pass over the backup. Then the hail mary in the last minute of game and we are behind by 3. Maybe they don't get the TD pass over the backup if he leaves the starter in and the hail mary wouldn't have mattered. Who knows. Anyway, as I said, we haven't seen that yet here in Boise. Also, I really don't know if it matters or not, but 5 of our 10 asst. coaches are BSU alum who were coached by either Dan Hawkins or Chris Petersen and they were coached to play hard but respect the game. I am definitely going to be watching to see if that trend starts here. If it does, I will be the first to start writing letters. Thanks for the info.
I need 2 tickets. I am coming down with my brother-in-law.
We are really looking forward to trying some authentic Cajun food and in all honesty, we don't know what that means. When we think of Cajun food in Idaho, it mostly consists of Gumbo and Crawdads which we derive from movies. While we do want to try both of these, we are open for any local establishments who would serve a variety of the local flavors.
You're gonna eat like Kings man......probably put on 5-10lbs over the wknd. Stop by some tailgates (follow your nose), you'll be able to try whatever you want.....BETTER than restaurants.
Get to field as early as possible and walk around, you will be fed until you are uncomfortable. Go to the game and after that 3 hours you will finally be able to breath, then make sure to walk around after and you will be fed until you are uncomfortably full once again. You can't buy any better Cajun food than what you will get walking around the tailgate area. You don't have to worry about asking, people will invite you and insist you try everything they have to offer. Just don't say no and don't ask what's in it, just eat it.
Tequila Sunrise??
