He did play a lot of zone in Carolina, but the DC does a lot of blitzing in front of his zone. They have a very good defensive front 7 and get good pressure on opposing QB's.

Yep, and pressure on the QB will be the primary factor in whether any secondary scheme we run works.

I just think our coaches understand that we don't have the talent at DB to run unassisted man coverage all game long. I'm sure there will be some man assignments, such as short yardage situations, especially inside our own 10 yard line.

I think they are billing this secondary as our best since Bill and Melvin..

Yet Hud still wants to run Zone.

Just for Boise St purposes, I don't think they have a choice..

Rypien is the best player we will face this year (sans Nick Chubb). He would torch our man-to-man, especially because we don't teach "jam them at the line" technique. While Savion is a little seasoned, he will still play some Safety and there will be a learning curve.

I have hope here: When the defense was healthy last year, they put up some very impressive halves of football. Mario Osborne getting more playing time is great for us. He's a difference maker. Otha looks like the guy Arkansas recruited now and from all accounts, looks comfortable in his role, more than ever. If Thomas is as advertised, and we get anything opposite Osborne, we can play with Boise St. At least our front line guys can. Depth is probably a problem.

But hey, continue with your message board badass persona. I just join others in laughing at your ridiculousness.
The team has not even reported for camp yet and the arm chair coach's are out in full force saying that a Melvin Smith who has been in the business since 1982 with stints at Alabama, Auburn, TAMU, Ole Miss, Miss State; coach all SEC defensive backs; coach in the BCS National championship game in 2013 and Charlie Harbison who has had a 20 year coaching carrer and has coached at Miis State, Auburn, Clemson, LSU, Alabama, and UTEP don't know what the F U C K they are doing!!!

Come one man...the people day in and day out are proving your flat out ignorance and bias when it comes to anything that doesn't fit EXACTLY the way you want it.

The funniest thing about it is that most, if not all, of you do not have a F U C K I N G clue how to evaluate talent or coach a single position in football. Of course, Cajun T and basinbear are excluded from my comments.

Par for the course around here though....Turbine, your site is being overrun by cancer!!

You do understand that a FAN message board is to discuss these type of things in an informal manor, right?

Not sure why you directed this at me. I was in this thread trying to explain why our coaches may be wanting to play zone, and why strict man coverage seems to be more difficult.

Sorry. I should have been clearer. It wasn't directed you.

DISCUSSING things, as MAT has eluded to, is what a fan board is all about. But as you put it, this board does not does not discuss things...it flat out directly and indirectly call people idiots, lackeys and what ever else you want to call it. Most times, as in this case, judgement is passed on a decision before the product of the decision is known.

Saying the secondary will get picked apart just because they run a primarily zone defense is asinine.

For the record, my comments were mostly positive about the defense...
