So you're saying AD's don't deserve any credit for on field success?
I think he does deserve credit for the success of the athletic program under his tenure. But it he also bares the brunt of the many things he was not doing outlined in the Alden report, his lack of fundraising (which is his primary responsibility as AD), rolling out a points system in a timely matter, his clashes with his coaches, not telling the truth on a number of matters, etc; You are correct, he should get credit for success, but it should be balanced with the negatives which are a much longer list if you are willing to do your homework.

My thoughts are this. Everyone IMAGINE where we could be if we had a true LEADER in that position!!! We made progress with this dude, think what could be with a REAL AD!

The laziness of the administration is fully evident in the last minute of the interview. Dave asked Scott if they are doing a cost analysis on joining different conferences… Scott brought up a point that I thought about the second someone mentioned a cost analysis for conference realignment, in that you won't know who's in the conference until the dominos start moving. This is very true Scott, however, it's not difficult to create a cost analysis for the current AAC and CUSA landscape, follow some of the realignment rumors and adjust your cost analysis accordingly, creating multiple reports for different scenarios. The majority of the different reports would contain the same info, but slightly adjusted for the different potential scenarios. Today, we know who is in the AAC. We also know who the BIG12 is discussing taking on. Create a few reports using the different teams being discussed as potential suitors and your job is done. Cost analysis is a projection, not an actual account. This shows that either Scott is so tied up trying to clean up the mess he made with the Tigue that he has no time to do this, or that he just doesn't care and it's "too much work" but either way, more mud on the face.

We should also already have individual reports of every single FBS school in the country. What it would cost to travel to said school for every single sport. If you have these individual school reports, cost analysis using hypothetical scenarios for potential conference realignment, it is literally plug and play. We all know you like to divvy up your work and pass it down to your subordinates, so get them on this Scott. It will make your job a lot easier, and make you look smarter in the process.

Famous words of Mike Alden.. "I've never heard the word "can't" so many times" (when dealing with our admin).

Something to get excited about going forward.

And again, thank you Scott for proving the "select few" on RP have been dead on since this debacle began.

Schultz is becoming the voice of the fans. GREAT questions.

How much bull____ did you guys hear in that interview? I've never seen an AD have literally NO answers.
Holding the GOVERNMENT accountable. It's refreshing.

    Understood.

Hypothetical: if all else is equal, would the con list still be longer for you if we find ourselves in the AAC in 3 years?

Didn't get a chance to read the whole report...was that an Alden quote?

while on surface it seems simple, but I have tried to ascertain similar information, but it seems different everywhere you go. also look at pro for an example. Crane kenney was president of the CUBS, they hire Theo Epstein (a famous GM) but he is actually team prez, with Jed Hoyer as GM. however, a. Crane Kenney is still prez as well and b. many times when media is referencing "GM type decisions" they cite Theo not Jed? various universities probably have way more varying structures to even count. look at the chancellor vs. president position itself, not very consistent.

Good article on The Role of the Modern Day Athletic Director for G5 Athletic Directors...please read the following excerpt and tell me this does not scare the hell out of you..these seem to be his weakest areas:

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonbel.../#139b12782002

Like any organization that is not the dominate force in the respective market, their leaders must be adept at dealing with a number of human and financial capital issues that can either spur growth or bring upon their demise if not properly managed. In particular, non-Power 5 conference athletic directors must excel at:

Recruitment, development and retention of quality coaching and administrative talent. While schools in major conferences often have the luxury of paying their coaches millions of dollars, smaller institutions do not. Athletic directors at this level do not only have to have a knack for identifying the next great coaching talent, but must also find ways of keeping them around when they are successful. This also goes for their administrative staff – assistant athletic directors that have proven their worth at smaller institutions are easy pickings for departments with bigger budgets.

Advising their university administration and constituents on how to best navigate through conference realignment. That means being proactive instead of reactive when it comes to best positioning their departments to make a move into a different conference, as well as ascertaining the changing landscape of their current conference and peer institutions that can potentially hurt their own future opportunities. Conference realignment often has a clear set of winners and losers, and athletic directors that are ill prepared to lead their universities through such tumultuous processes can often also be its first casualty.

Managing ever increasing expenses while not having the luxury of tens of millions in media rights dollars coming their way. FBS athletic directors in weaker conferences must find creative ways of raising revenues while dealing with seemingly exponential cost growth, and often must contend with the possibility of cutting programs (e.g. Maryland and Temple) to make their budgets work.

Authement demoted or moved Schexnayder to Martin Hall in part over the Cyprien debacle and the summer course problem with Orien Green.

ps the inception and bulk of the Indoor Practice Facility getting built was on Nelson Schexnayder's watch.

pps In the Pentathlam, UL also finished 3rd in the Country under Nelson Schexnayder. He still stepped down.
