Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns posted their first Sun Belt road victory of the season on Saturday with a 72-67 victory over ULM at Fant-Ewing Coliseum in Monroe.

Trailing 39-37 with 13:32 remaining Louisiana (9-12, 6-4 Sun Belt) went inside to Javan Mitchell on the next two touches and after he was fouled both times made four freebies for a 41-39 advantage with 12:11 on the clock.

Mitchell kissed a shot off the backboard at 7:20 with three seconds on the shot clock to up the lead to 47-43. On the next possession, Tyren Johnson fired home a trey at 6:27 to increase the lead to 50-43.

The lead grew to 52-43 after Raymone Andrews made free throws at 5:45. A pair of three-point possessions helped the Warhawks (9-14, 4-8 Sun Belt) crawl within five, 54-49 with 4:25 left.

UL got free throw makes from Andrews and Mitchell to extend the lead to 58-50 by 3:51 and the hosts would get no closer than four points the rest of the way and that came with 48 seconds left to play.

Four Cajuns scored in double figures - the first time that many reached that mark since five scored double figures at Sam Houston State. Johnson led the way with 19 points, his 10th straight outing in double figures.

Andrews scored 17 and Mitchell had 10 as the freshman duo recorded a career-high in points. Andrews shot 11-of-14 at the free throw line and Mitchell was 6-of-6.

Dynile Forbes led the Warhawks with 23 points on 7-of-14 shooting.

The Cajuns, who held ULM to just five field goal makes in the first 16 minutes of the second half, improved to 5-2 vs. the Warhawks in Sun Belt play (2-2 at Fant-Ewing Coliseum).

The teams traded scores in the first three minutes and were knotted up at 6-all. Lamar Roberson buried a mid-range jumper at 16:33 to give the Cajuns an 8-6 lead.

A triple from Gilbert returned the lead to ULM and then back-to-back inside buckets from Turner helped the Warhawks open a 13-8 lead by 14:27.

The Cajuns held the Warhawks scoreless over the next three minutes. Then a pair of Andrews layups after ULM turnovers put UL up 14-13 at 11:51.

ULM jumped back in front when Brandon Williams and Forbes executed an alley-oop at 10:37 and completed a three-point play for an 18-16 advantage.

Louisiana would create a tie twice over the next two minutes. The Warhawks had an answer each time and broke a 22-all tie when Tony Hooper dished to Rudy Turner for a layup at 8:15.

The ULM lead grew to 30-23 as the Cajuns went quiet over the next four minutes. The Cajuns rallied back with a half-ending 8-2 run in the final 4:19 to cut the deficit to 32-31 at the break.

Both teams shot 48 percent in the opening frame and each scored 22 points in the paint.

Louisiana is home at the Cajundome next week for a pair of games. First up is a meeting with Isiah Thomas and the FIU Golden Panthers on Thursday, Feb. 4 at 7:05 p.m., followed by a contest with UALR on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 7:05 p.m.
