Isn't the problem with 1420 more of signal strength rather than AM/FM?
On a good clear day, I pick up Houston AM stations all the way to Jennings. AM isn't the problem.

I have not heard Texas Mike call in for quite some time now.
My thoughts on 1420:
- Stevie P is decent
- Ryckman and Foote's show is probably the best on 1420
- Jay Walker is jackazz with an ego problem
- Scott Prather and RB are decent and make things fun
- Terrible Tune Tuesday is horrible and needs to stop
- The caller "Ron" needs to be limited to a couple calls a week, not three calls a day
- Oh Brother with Gary & Shannon Wilkerson makes me want to drive to 1420 studio, cut my ears off and jam them down their throats in an attempt to shut them up.
The problem is that KPEL 1420AM in Lafayette is geographically close to KSIG 1450 in Crowley. If either one increases signal strength they will over power the other. Both radio stations have been around forever and they don't want to give up their frequency. They have to reduce power at night because of atmospheric affects on the A.M. Radio signal. WGN in Chicago and WWL in New Orleans don't have that problem and they can blast out 10,000 watts (I think). There is another blowtorch AM radio station in St. Louis but I forgot its call sign ( I think it is WLS but not sure).
I think OTA radio will be a thing of the past very soon with radio available only on the internet via streaming. I have never had any problem with radio pup. But I prefer to log on to the website and click the listen now button.
Stevie P - Good
Foote - Good
Ryckman - Good when he has guest by himself bad
Walker - full of himself not good I call him dead air.
Prather - a Jay want to be
RB - tries hard could be good.
Oh Brother - OH BROTHER!
Sorry. I just don't find Kevin Foote good radio.
