You're being more than fair ... I forgot about his brother. What happened with him after Shawn came to UL ... I don't remember anymore from him.
I still have hopes for bb and agree on the salary earning.

I was a believer when he first got here. Me and a few fellow posters went back and forth regarding Bob and his potential. I was willing to let him build off of the NCAA appearance, where others were able to forecast mediocrity.
I can admit, it's playing out that others vision of this program was a little clearer than mine.
You're right...his brother was never brought up again once he got on campus??? I love basketball and miss the days when we wouldn't lose a game in the Cajundome. Jessie Evans didn't put the best quality guys on the court but man they could play.
No, you got to give the guy credit where credit is due. I know Elfrid PAYTON flew way under the radar. Thats why you have to credit Marlin for finding a player that nobody else was even looking at. That's called good recruiting. And if you say he was mediocre before he got here then you have to acknowledge Marlin's role in developing him from a mediocre player to a #10 draft pick.
And the seeds for SHAWN coming here were planted before he even arrived at Miss. State. Shawn was talented enough that he could have gotten transfer offers from hundreds of schools. He ended up here because of the relationship our coaches developed with him. You got to give him the credit for that.
From what I hear Jerekius Davis and Malik Marquetti will be on the same level of Shawn and Elfrid.
Now all the other recruits, well, some of them have been duds. I'm not going to name names. That's also on Coach Marlin.
My bad.
Bob Marlin can suck my ****!
Um, ok....
Even though Elfrid was brought to Marlin's attention and wasn't discovered by him or his staff personally, one has to credit his decision in offering him a scholarship. I believe UL was one of two colleges to offer him a scholarship.
As for Shawn Long, I'm sure he could have transferred to numerous other LA schools. However, Marlin's recruiting efforts prior to Long accepting Miss St's scholarship locked up his transfer.
Two great gets and a couple of adequate players doesn't negate his overall poor recruiting efforts at UL.
I give Marlin credit for getting Payton and helping him develope.... But Payton spent many many late nights in that practice facility alone. It's still not the same as landing someone that everybody wants.
