That is such a poorly run organization. Glad he made the league though!
It worked well for Andrew Tony.
I'm glad he signed on with somebody, and I'm hoping he makes it. But - and this is totally separate from my happiness for him as a person - I don't like that fit for Shawn. The Sixers are a terribly run organization and they've been taking forwards and centers in the lottery for years now while setting records for losing and telling fans to buy into "the plan." The plan has them with a glut of big men already, to the point that they spent much of last night trying to unload either/both of Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor. Both of them top 10 picks. They also have chronically-injured Joel Embiid, the #3 pick from 2 years ago. And they added Ben Simmons to that. And now Shawn has to compete for a roster spot with all those lottery guaranteed contracts. I have a lot of faith in him as a player and a person, but at least going by my very amateur outlook, my early impression is that it's unlikely he can earn a spot on the team purely from a numbers perspective. But nothing would make me happier than for him to make me look like an idiot.
You can look at it on the other side too in that they could like what they see in Shawn which will allow them to deals those others for less. Guys drafted that high with that much talent... There is always another GM or coach that thinks they can fix them. If he is good enough he will latch on... I think Shawn is good enough to play in the NBA. It may be as a role player but I think he can play.
Former Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball standout Shawn Long is headed to the NBA after signing a two-year partially guaranteed contract with the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers on Friday._
They might need long as Simmons can't shoot. Don't think he's gonna dominate in paint like college
