Shawn's lack of effort and poor work ethic will keep him out of the NBA.

I don't think that narrative fits him anymore. Maybe when he first got here but he's improved his game and slimmed down in the last couple of years and I don't remember seeing him sulk much either. I just think Shawn is a product of an expanding game where you now have tons of europeans now eligible for the draft and an ever expanding recruiting reach to those areas where our scouts have access to grade them.

OK---if you are recruiting in a time capsule---would you rather get EP or Long??? Who had the better UL career?

Am I making this choice as a college talent scout or an NBA talent scout? It makes a huge difference. The NBA evaluates what they need for the NBA. You cannot look at what EP offers and the massively different skillset Long offers. That said, teams must be considering how Shawn fits into the NBA. I consider someone that is 6'11" and athletic as somewhat like a pitcher that can throw 95mph. The NBA is "considering" Shawn Long. Personally... and this is not because I'm a Cajun fan... I'd seriously want to work Shawn out and take a strong look at what I could teach up and use in the NBA.

That's a very good point. The NBA worldwide feeder system is for real. I still think Shawn is a candidate for NBA consideration. He's just too tall, big and athletic to ignore. There's something peculiar about Shawn. I believe the right group of men could get more out of him.

Long had better UL career. But, if EP stays a fourth year. His stats would be phenomenal. Both are candidates to have their jersey retired.

His question is much like Tyrell Fenroy versus Louis Age. Louis Age made it in the NFL. Tyrell did not. Which one had the bigger UL career? What difference did that make to the NFL?

Where was Orien Greene's draft stock at that time? Long's unfortunately is not that high.

From what I recall, Greene's draft stock wasn't very high because he missed a lot of time due to a foot injury. However, his pre draft work out for the Celtics was so impressive that they offered him a guaranteed contract if he declined all other workouts. Typically only first round draft picks are offered guaranteed contracts.

Exactly. My only point is that Shawn's path to the NBA will likely need to follow Orien's at this point. He will have to wow some team in an individual or group workout.
