Same here. I hope it ends up great for him.

If Shawn were exactly who he is coming out for the draft 20 years ago, he'd clearly be in the draft... possibly first round. I think he can work with some teams and get picked up. I just can't see a 6'11" athletic accomplished athlete like Shawn not being seriously looked at. UL gets a lot of tweeners over the years that don't fit the NBA. I see Shawn as one of our best NBA UL prospects of all time. EP surprised me. I thought his lack of shooting skills would leave him out. I think several NBA scouts made hasty judgements of Shawn and hurt his stock. JMO

Frank Kaminsky started on a playoff team.
Shawn can play in the NBA. Let the league sleep on him. Smart organizations know what he can do. Hopefully he ends up with the Spurs, Wolves, Warriors or Heat.

I think the workouts will be huge for him. Many scouts and organizations are familiar with many of the other bigs in the draft. I think Shawn's lack of agility on the perimeter on defense will hurt him a bit as teams are looking for guys who can guard the stretch 4 and the pick and pop. Offensively, there aren't many available bigs that are more polished than Shawn.

Also have to take into account upside. That is what is making this Skal Labissiere and Poetl high draft picks as Skal looked absolutely horrible for Kentucky this year but is a top 10 pick. What is Shawn's ceiling of potential?

I was talking to UL Great Kevin Figaro the other day, and he said about his situation. ...

    1) Was NOT invited to NBA combine.
    2) Had tryouts with 3 NBA teams.
    3) Was drafted into the NBA.
    4) Was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks, a team he did not tryout for.

Ps There are fewer rounds now, Kevin Figaro was the 75th overall pick.

Hopefully Shawn can make some noise.

"Long, a Louisiana native, spent four seasons at Louisiana. He was tabbed Sun Belt Player of the Year as a senior; however, the 6'9" tall, 245 pound big man delivered impressive numbers throughout his time with the Ragin' Cajuns. For his career, he produced 17.3 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. He averaged a double-double in all four of his seasons, and left the school ranked second on the Sun Belt conference's all-time scoring and blocked shots charts, and first on its all-time rebounding list."

    "Long Offers an Intriguing Look
Twenty-three year old Shawn Long was both the oldest and biggest prospect invited to Monday's workout. The Louisiana product racked up some pretty heady accomplishments in college. He finished his four-year career with the Ragin' Cajuns ranked first in Sun Belt conference history in total rebounds, and second in points scored and shots blocked.

"I think the biggest thing was, just learning my strength and my weaknesses," Long said. "Once I got a good feel for what that was, the rest followed. Just being accountable for things on the court, I think that's paid off for me a lot the last few years."

During the segment of Monday's session that the media was permitted to watch, Long didn't hold back on heaving a few three-point tries. The 6'9" tall, 245-pound big man shot 34.1 percent from outside the arc as a collegian.

"I don't mind mixing it up down low, as well as stretching it out on the floor," said Long, who played at Louisiana with current Orlando Magic point guard Elfrid Payton.

"He's got really good size," Sixers Vice President of Player Personnel Marc Eversley said of Long. "I'd call him a stretch five or a stretch four. He's got the ability to step out and make a shot. The other thing he does well is he can take you off the dribble. Not sure if you saw it, but he utilized the pump fake pretty well. He's got great size, and he can step out and make a shot."

Monday was Long's first workout with an NBA team."

    Long shows Sixers his range

"Shawn Long proved Monday that he has an NBA skill set.

The Louisiana-Lafayette post player kept making buckets during his 76ers’ pre-draft workout at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

“I call him a stretch five, stretch four,” Sixers vice president of player personnel Marc Eversley said of the 6-foot-9, 245-pounder. “He has the ability to go out make a shot.

“The other thing that he does well is that he can take you off the dribble. He utilizes a pump fake well.”

He has a workout set up with Milwaukee on Wednesday, followed by one with Denver (Saturday), Houston (Monday), Dallas (May 24), Los Angeles Lakers (May 31), Utah (June 1), Washington (June 6) and Boston (June 9).
