I don't see what all the fuss is about regarding 1420 getting Cajun sports and people trying to get 103.7 to take over. As far as I'm concerned Dave Shultz is so effin annoying as he cannot conduct an interview without SPEAKING OVER THE GUEST NONSTOP. So count me as a 1420 fan if you're taking note. I don't give 2 shats if Jay Walker stood by Farmer or not because at the end of the day, he is a much better show host than Dave "likes to hear himself talk" Shultz will ever be. I found myself saying out loud "shutup and let the man answer the question" multiple times when Dave was interviewing Eric Crozier right here.

    I'll never be a 103.7 fan.

1420 can use some work, sure, but I don't tune into the radio shows to hear the host call out people, I tune in for knowledge of the program. And Jay Walker has Years and Years more knowledge of UL athletics than this joke Shultz. I hope to God 103.7 does not get the new UL contract.

FYI, just drove by the field again... new stadium lights (same as the light poles) are being installed on the edge of the grandstand canopy. I forgot they were planning on adding more lights right there. This will make a big difference for on-field lighting for sure.

The best case scenario would be to contract with a network like WESTWOOD ONE, where you pick up almost every market in Louisiana and also have UL Football games on satellite as well. In that case we would have announcers from outside the local radio market. With Rick Jones from FishBait Marketing involved, we will maximize our media contracts this time around.

103.7 has broadcast rights in the area for LSU. I don't think they will give that up to broadcast cajuns games. Way too much money to be made with LSU versus Cajuns.

I wonder if Don would be willing to dust off the mike and show everybody how this is done...

They want our contract, regardless is they get it or not...nobody will be producing cajun games for free anymore. You can catch 98.1 just about anywhere you can catch 103.7...98.1 has had tiger games for a long time.

The issue in my mind would be the personnel, stations, and willingness to carry 3-4 games simultaneously.

I heard Schultz interview the new AD. His questions were appropriate, fan focused, direct, but respectful. It was painful listening to Jay interview SF. He was tossing softballs. I didn't hear his interview with the new AD so I don't know if it was more of the same.

Jay does have "Cajuns knowledge" as he should, but he is biased and he is a mouthpiece of the university. He can deny it all he wants. He has lost credibility with fans. KPEL and company should be nervous about loosing the "flagship" moniker (even though they have no agreement). We need new blood. We need more of a professional broadcasting presence. Not some insert "he calls in all the time, so let's give him a show" BS that KPEL passes off to people. I am not saying Schultz or the 103.7 is the solution, but KPEL isn't bringing it for me and I no longer listen to the station because of it.

All major sports at this university Football, baseball, basketball and softball should be broadcast on FM radio by now. It's 2017....not 1980. Baseball "during the week" is still on AM radio. Softball is on AM radio....I know we are fortunate to have softball even carried by radio. But the bottom line is, you shouldn't have to run an app thru your phone to have clear enough signal to listen to a game.

This is a bit off thread, so it needs to be put in a separate thread

Being critical of KPEL's show selection and daily talent is different than being critical of their game broadcasts which is what affects the broadcast contract. 103.7 is ahead in terms of putting daily show archives and making their shows accessible to people who can't listen live which I think is a must in this day, but that really doesn't affect the sports contract/live games I think. I don't think schools even put radio archives of games up to be honest.

Obviously they will be reviewing all of these factors like sound quality, availability, events covered, talent, etc. I think they KPEL could improve by having all games on FM, though that only affects midweek baseball games and all the softball games. Either way, the whole deal has to be reviewed and straightened out. No more non-contract deals

To CajunT's point, I think he is thinking more of something like IMG College Sports not Westwood One. Westwood is more of a national network not tied to individual universities. They do the biggest games/conferences each week/NCAA championships etc. IMG is more of the type of multimedia rights management group you're talking about. They used to have a contract with South Alabama for example and managed all of their multimedia rights, etc, though South Al just broke from them and formed Jaguar Sports Properties to manage it instead. I'd be interested to see what Jag fans that know more about the situation have to say about that.
