The third level has steel beams supporting the corrugated decking the second level has bar joists. I suspect the third level is a concourse level with anticipated heavy live loads (Standing room only type if loads). I need to check the code but i would suspect those loads to be well above 100 pounds a square foot. I suspect the second level is more of a support type of occupancy with lower live loads. Bar joists are notorious for being bouncy because they are light weight. I suspect the designer anticipated large live loads on the third level that could be moving in unison and could cause a harmonic oscillation. Something that would cause discomfort for the occupants and could cause motion sickness in severe cases.

Once the reno is complete do we actually know what the new stadium 's seating capacity will be?

If you want a bigger view of the camera shots, you can right click on the image and click to "Open Original Image in New Tab." (at least on Chrome) or go to these two URLs:

    http://anisette.ucs.louisiana.edu/Ab...ructionCam.jpg
    http://anisette.ucs.louisiana.edu/Ab...uctionCam2.jpg

This gives a much larger picture. These won't refresh automatically but you can refresh them manually to update

Also, Construction Cam 2 link is only good in the morning. Once the sun is in the frame, you can't see anything but shapes

Will someone please explain the construction plan. The 1st & 3rd base seating is being left in place and the only elevated area of the structure is behind home plate. But, look at the rendering. Will this stadium look anything like the rendering? That didn't happen with the APC.

It will look exactly like the rendering. They will build the parts behind the existing metal bleachers after the grandstand steel is up

Pretty sure I remember somewhere in the 4500 range for actual seating capacity. It's about 3600 right now.

If that's the final number that's very disappointing. Cajuns averaged around 4,200 a game last year. Doesn't give much room for growth. Whats going to happen when they sell out at 4,500? Do we turn people and their money away? Capacity, IMO should be no less than 5K.

From what I understand there will be areas to add temporary seating for regionals and supers. We also started announcing paid attendance...very few times if any were we at capacity. I'd rather sell out occasionally than play in a half full stadium majority of the time. If the temporary would have to become permanent and we often sold out at 5200...I'd be fine with that. That would put us at top 7-10 in attendance every year. The suites will also hold a few hundred people that's not counted in that seating number, so with suites you are looking at probably somewhere around 5500-5700 capacity not counting SRO.

We sold out at 4200 with a 3755 seating capacity. I can't imagine why the sell out capacity wouldn't increase as much as the std seating capacity. So if it goes up 800, maybe the sell out is 5000 or so now? I'm not 100% certain on that though.

Also, as HM stated, there will be room for SRO (I think on the decks at the top of the metal bleachers especially.) And very rarely were we at capacity. Really just when hosting postseason or LSU

If you're just looking at numbers, we averaged more than the stadium capacity last year. I don't think there were many (if any) games that we actually had more than 3600 butts in the seats. The proposed 4500 will be good unless you have LSU or regionals being hosted. My thinking is the next capacity increase will happen in the next phase of renovation when they replace the first base bleachers by extending the new grandstand down the first base line, but I wouldn't expect that to be a large increase either. The next after that would be the third base line upgrade.
