I think there is also a plan to extend the netting down the baselines as well. I certainly hope so because there have been some pretty good injuries through the years.

That's what I had heard as well. My guess is it will be similar to the women's field with support pipes down the 1st and 3rd base lines as structural support for a cable supporting the top of the net structure which will utilize cabling tied to the grandstand overhang to establish the shape. I also think it will extend further down the lines as well which some in the bleachers may not like.

Hard to tell from the pics, but I was under the impression that grandstand overhang was supposed to go almost to the field of play - like where the netting would be hanging. Doesn't look like that is the case. Anyone know for sure?

No. I never saw it depicted like that and it won't come close to the field of play.

The comments I remember are they would build the overhang as large as could be supported.

I have never seen a grandstand overhang go all the way or close to the backstop in any ball park.

Back in the day when the Tigue had chain link fence as netting...didn't it connect to the overhang (or pipes extending from the overhang?

The one's from A&M are the ones I remember. The support pipes are well down the lines past the major seating area as you can see in one of the attached photos.

I think he was more referring to the fact that the overhang covers all the seats, not that the net is suspended. Just used the net hanging straight down to show that the overhang covers all seats

The Alex Box roof is designed a bit differently (tension cables used I think). I wonder if, structurally, that allows for a longer roof.



I know is we requested the longest cantilevered roof that we could get (within certain parameters I'd imagine). You probably could change the design of the overall stadium to make it somewhat longer but I don't know that for sure. Or maybe the cost would've gone up significantly for just a slightly longer roof.
