No amount of cover will help most people on day games since the grandstand faces south but it should be a lot more shaded seats than before
Looking at renderings it looks like there will be some cover over the bleacher seats as well which will be nice. Most will be over the concourse area but should still help produce some shade.

Why is it that the structure is being built up completely on the center and right sides but they don't have anything yet for the left side? I'm sure there's a construction reason for this, anyone know?

Pretty sure Helmut posited that they had to keep an right of way to get the large crane out of the complex as it would damage the concrete were it to pass over it.

Are you asking why they're doing steel work on the 3B side but not the 1B side? If that's what you are getting at, I assume it's a pretty logical progression on the project. They couldn't pour the whole slab for the entire structure at once so they did one side first then the next. Once the first slab was set, they got the steel work going while other guys did the concrete on the 1B side. So, one side will lag slightly time-wise. It really doesn't matter what goes up when, I'd imagine. There will always be something for them to work on.

Also, like CajunAmos said, they did leave a large gap in the slab to get the crane out on the 1B side. That won't stop them from putting steel up though I think

And some awesome cantilevering going on there too.....that always intrigues me. Helmut: can you shed some light on how expensive that can be, other limitations, etc.?
It's all a function of money.

Yes. What they are doing is compressing the critical path.

Anyone know if they've started any steel work on the 2nd portion of the grandstand yet?

They will not start that until they have finished with the third base section first. They need to get the structure up so they can proceed with the next job on the critical path. This is probably exterior and interior walls. This will allow them to proceed with electrical, plumbing and mechanical rough in.

Once they finish with first base steel the tasks listed above on the third base line can move to the first base line. Think of it as a parade moving from third base line to first base line. The leader of the parade is the most critical task on the time line. Right now anything that holds up steel erection holds up the train. I think they will work this weekend as they lost at least a day this past week due to rain. Steel erection crews are a different breed. Cantankerous and boisterous at the same time. As long as you respect them they will respect you.
