The diff between yesteray and today was we were able to play aggressive yesterday. We put runners in motion, bunt, hit and run etc. we couldn't do that playing from behind. We had to rely on swinging our way back from a 3-4 run deficits and we don't have that kinda offense. They played the same brand of baseball today that we played yesterday.

Still proud to be a Cajun. Remarkable finish for a team that wasn't expected to finish nearly as well as we did. Great job, guys! Good luck in life to you seniors and I look forward to see the returning players going forward!!

I found it humorous that we had more people in attdce for our regional on a Monday at 1, than Latex puts in their football stadium on Saturday in the fall. Wow!

I think Tony needs to find a rah rah guy. This team had zero fire a day after putting themselves in a position to go to their third straight regional with an emphatic win over a good Arizona club. There was little to no emotion, no fire, no urgency.

Here's the thing.. This year's leaders, and best players (Carter, Tros, Clement, Thurm) were all mild mannered guys. I like the firey guy too, but some of the best teams I ever played on were more mild mannered, and even keel under pressure.

Anyway, from what I understand, Handsome Monica will be coming in with a lot of fire and a lot of "confidence" we'll call it for now.. Swag as the kids say.. Also, Todd Lott is a professional hitter, and if we get him to campus, we will not be lacking in "swag" for long..

Halfway through the second game I was hoping Tony would realize whats going on and get ejected over something petty...just to try and light a fire under these kids.

The "rah rah" in baseball comes from battling at the plate. As a coach searches for talent he just ends up with a cast of characters. I've seen this group have all the attitude necessary. The past two games, we were managed at the plate by some good pitching. The subtle battles between pitcher and batter resulted in just about every guy being a little off balance throughout the at-bat.

I was surprised at Arizona's depth and resolve. I didn't think they had that deep of a pitching well. And they were solid at the plate for not having big numbers. In game 7 yesterday, one big difference was that our infield hits went straight to someone... theirs went straight to a gap. And we certainly cannot blame pitching. We had one painful inning as we tested our staff. But we came back and did the job from the mound.

Arizona kept the ball around the plate all day. And they rarely gave up a meaty pitch. The ump was handing out anything breaking near the plate... and low pitches right above the shoestrings. Arizona pitchers were doing a tremendous job of keeping just about everyone off balance at the plate. I have to give them more of the nod than griping about our batting.

Something about that Arizona coach annoys me... but I have to give it to him... he did a masterful job managing his pitching after the loss to the Cajuns. Masterful.

And even with all of that, if Kennon finds a way to poke that pitch into the outfield, we probably win that game. Also, If we don't kick the ball around in the first inning with Wyatt on the mound, it's 1-1 going into the 9th inning. Umpire squeezed both Guillory and Marks, but I'm not going to make it about that.

No one wants to hear this right now, but Arizona was better. They dug deep and battled. They got big hits and executed their gameplan to perfection.

The coach, Jay Johnson? I'd like to catch that guy in a back alley.

He coached to win...nothing else. Nothing was more important. Not pitch counts, not heat stroke. Getting the W was paramount. I think Tony lacks that edge. Tony didn't coach to win. Not throwing Guillory out there knowing what his last outing was, when he knew he had Marks ready to go for the kill. He throws Marks in game 6, we head to Starkville. That game 6 loss killed everything we had. You never give a team an opportunity to come back...they always will.

There really wasn't an opportunity for that. I actually don't think Tony felt we were ever out of it. Neither did I. It was just a battle of looking for a flaw in the Arizona pitching. And it just never materialized. Their pitching was superb. Not that I blame that ump... but with a different strike zone... it would have made a world of difference. Arizona... however... was capable of taking full advantage of the strike zone. We had to swing at pitches well off the plate.
