Community's love for college baseball goes a long way back
Here's some factual information:
In the '80s, the highest average attendance was 412 in 1985. The Cajuns had a big jump in 1990, going from 383 in '89 to 889 the following year.
In 1992, the year after the Cajuns made their regional final appearance in BR, the Cajuns averaged four figures for the first time at 1302. (Papo Ramos' senior year...and our first year in the Sun Belt.)
Attendance shrunk the next five years, down to a low of 388 in 1996 during our second year of probation, which was Robe's second year. But in 1997, we were back over 1000 (1013.)
Suprisingly, attendance was cut almost in half the following year, even though we were in a regional (591). In 2000, we got up to 1,411 and have been over 1000 ever since.
We hit 2000 in attendance for the first time in 2003 (2,129) Our lowest attendance since then has been 1,442 in 2004.
The last time we averaged fewer than 2,000 was 2010 (1,781)
Our first average attendance of over 3,000 was in 2011. We dipped into the low 2,000s in 2012-13.
So, you can argue when it started, but now you know when it's been the most consistent and when it really took off.
The switch to tickets sold from butts in the seats four or five years ago gave us a nice little spike.
