Ok. I think I've read enough about the criticism of Dan McDonald. Those criticizing him may or may not know of Dan's history.

Dan has pretty much dedicated his life to UL athletics. He has been involved with the university for more than 35 years. For 19 of those years he was the sports information director. It was a job he spent countless hours doing every week, for I am sure what was, low pay. Those who learned under him include, Herb Vincent, Doug Ireland, Pat Murphy and Joe Lynch. For his efforts he was inducted into the College Sports Information Directors Hall of Fame.

He is one of the best sports writers out there, having won numerous Louisiana Sports Writers Association awards.

Dan has no blatant disrespect for our university, student athletes, alumni, and fans. Which is what SMD7636 wrote. My bet is SMD is a millinnial who trolls the internet all day and gets his jollies by criticizing people he knows nothing about.

So now, I feel better. I have known Dan since 1980 and thought I'd spend a little time defending him. Later.

Stop!! We've only been having this same argument going on decades now. Nothing to worry about!

    I can understand that.

However, why not "LOUISIANA-Lafayette", instead of just "UL Lafayette"? At least the way the ESPN softball announcer referred to us this past weekend sounded better, IMO.

    Oh well.

I really don't give a ____ to be honest, let's just keep winning.

Again, the leadership from the university on this issue has been a damn clown car show, so there's no use getting stirred up.
Or he can use Louisiana. ... If he wants.

Probably not if he wants to keep getting hired by the Sunbelt.

But refuses to. I've heard a million times how great of an SID, and hard worker, and nice guy he is. And that's fine, I'm sure he is all of those things.

But as a gameday broadcaster, and ambassador for UL, he fails. Doesn't make him a bad guy. Doesn't make all the posters that are ripping him wrong. When non-Cajun people are listening to the call, no one is going to sit on their couch or in their vehicle and tell them what a great guy McDonald may be.

I will say that during my time at UL, I remember him giving nice coverage of both the cross country and track teams during times of the seasons. In fact, that is sorely missed by those of us who would like to read about such on the paper.

Dan is doing as he is instructed BY HIS EMPLOYER. As we all would if it was our job that put food on the table.

Forgive me, but let me use Jay Walker as an example. If his boss walks in tomorrow and tells him to quit using "Louisiana", he would have two options. Do it or not do it and suffer the consequences. Just like any one of us put in the same position. If that's the way you are keeping a roof over your head and taking care of your family, you comply.

Dan is a fine individual, and you can bet your bottom dollar he'd "Louisiana" in a second, if his employers allowed it. Obviously, they don't. And why I don't buy the Advocate even for my bird cage.

    Was said years ago...this isn't a sprint, it's a marathon...ran by the supporters.

Ok, if that's the case, why doesn't he use Louisiana on "The Rage"? Or KPEL broadcasts? No one in that building is telling him he can't use Louisiana.
