For everyone rightfully _____ing about ESPN calling us Louisiana Lafayette and Lafayette and not LOUISIANA, what about The Advocate? I am sick and tired of reading articles about Louisiana Lafayette. I don't care how good the article is. They offer the Acadiana edition with Louisiana Lafayette. This is as big a BS as ESPN and its local. I'll take The Advertiser articles above The Advocate who gives us no respect.

...........Finally........Hey ESPN is not the Acadiana edition......Don't buy the paper and don't advertise until they do what the Advertiser has always done.....tell the beat writer to use Louisiana or quit!!!

This goes back to my comment in the other thread. Savoie isn't doing his job. BRAND is everything, and we can't even get it right in our home paper.

Imagine being a business owner, and having your name incorrectly plastered across a billboard for 100k people a day to drive by. Or how about doing a few radio spots with the wrong name.

This name deal with our school is 100000x worse because its a never ending cycle on NATIONAL TELEVISION. All year long, fans (and prospective customers or students for that matter) are inundated with incorrect information about who we are. It's laughable that we are still in the same spot with regards to this issue in 2016. Unparalleled success in almost every sport, and we STILL can't capitalize... it's shameful.

exactly! how about pulling their credentials?
not to mention, how exactly were we again pushed all the way to the limit, if we still had one game to spare?

USL official changed its name back in 1984, the same year I was born. Yet two administrations have failed to role out an acceptable and lasting branding strategy. Whats even crazier then the above nonsense is that they have access to a marketing department within the college of business administration. I use to be a "name guy" but since UL's leaders can't muster a decent strategy why should I waste my time..

  7. UL Softball Re: Not this time ...

Did Smith and Brown set up the win yesterday? Of course they took some pitches away from Stewart. That game, along with her sterling performance vs the Longhorns had her in prime physical condition. Both pitchers threw in excess of 180 pitches yesterday, and Stewart managed to get stronger as the game got late while Show was running down. No doubt both were spent at the end.

I want to know how many times there has been correspondence between anyone that matters at ESPN and our Athletic Director and/or President. It's easy to make the assumption there has been minimal or none based on the countless other balls that have been dropped (RCAF is still not separated, as we've all been told it would be; Jim Harris is still being handcuffed by reporting to Farmer; We still have not successfully negotiated a TV deal; We're dragging our feet on the Alden plan; etc etc etc etc etc.)

I've have about enough of this crap. I have been one of the suckers that spends way too much money and time, believing that we're right around the corner. Savoie, step the ____ up and do your ____ing job.

Someone mntioned it before-we need to talk to our own university, not ESP-N. It's clear that our administration avoids the subject and will not address the elephant in the room whenever the issue comes up. And it seems like it comes up multiple times a year in articles, complaints, radio call in show, etc.

This. Our own university leadership bears most of the blame in this branding fiasco. Changed logos. Changed branding preferences. Not able to decide on a mascot.

And yes, still not allowing separation of the booster from the university.

It is my understanding that Alden made specific marketing recommendations to capture the Louisiana identity. Are we following his specific recommendations and, if not, why not?

    Here's the thing.

The name change was first and foremost done for ACADEMIC reasons.

To the Academics, Doc included, the city tag is a badge of honor. Within them, resides the hope that one day Lafayette will be held in the same high regards as Berkeley in academic circles.

So, when politicians in this state start whining like the petulant children they are, I get the sense that we back down because our leadership just doesn't have the heart to win the fight.

They don't see the need to cause such a ruckus.

It is this cloistered, ivory tower mindset which made me totally against the name change in the way it was done. I always knew that it was a big loser for athletics, and subsequently for the university. Only, certain people can't see this truth from their lofty perch.
