CajunT... what's the latest on the BCS running back that we have a shot at?
So no Mike Jones? And no possibility of Houston Bates?
Guys, this is what I knew as of Thursday, according to my sources:
***CajunRed: The tailback previously committed to an automatic BCS conference school was set to visit this weekend. The Cajuns are currently his only offer, although he has interest from other power conference schools. He was expected to be UL's only visitor this weekend.
***CajunZ1: Kempner (Texas) defensive lineman Mike Jones got a late offer from Texas Tech earlier in the week and committed to the Red Raiders. Houston Bates decided to stick with his LSU commitment because there's nothing else he can do. He thought about de-committing, but is only 17 and needs a signature from a parent/guardian on his national letter of intent. Mom and dad won't sign for any school other than LSU. Sad situation.
Green committed the weekend he came in, I spoke to him that Monday. The staff wanted Mike Jones after McNeil was sent home, but Tuberville is struggling to finish his first class at Texas Tech and came back on him. So that staff decided to take Darrell Green's commit ment. Otherwise, UL has only one scholarship available for a HS DL. Green returned home from his visit and the staff told him they would get back to him. Mike Jones was the #1 target.
Who is McNeil?
Pat McNeil is a three-star defensive tackle from Mobile, Ala. He visited earlier this month, but the program decided to look elsewhere after questions about his character. Same with Copiah-Lincoln CC CB Ryan Williams, a Louisiana Tech commitment.
Poor Houston Bates. Thats just crap this poor kid is kinda being forced into purple. No man should be forced into purple. Its only fitting their blue chip DT Marsh stayed home because his parents told him too. Karma. This Bates kid will have to ride the pine in BR for a bunch of years, and special teams the rest. With the way the SEC is looking like that wont be as much fun as it used to be. Hope his parents catch their heads.
He will redshirt this year and spend alot of time in Lafayette on unofficial visits with his girlfriend. When he and his parents realize he won't be a major factor at LSU, he will transfer to UL and sit out a year with 2 years of eligibilty remaining but without having played much football for 3 years. The kid really would rather go to school here and UL is a much better fit . . . but people do not always do the right thing.
You know the scary thing is that he could sit out as a grayshirt this year and then sign with whichever school he wants in 2011 since he would be 18 at the time. Problem would be what to do over the next year as far as living arrangements.
What if he just refuses to sign and not to go to LSU.
Easier said than done. I have 2 teens and I know it would be a battle royal at my house and it most surely would have been one when I was a youngster.
