    There are NFL caliber players who are willing to sit the bench for 3 years for osmosis pride, never realizing that for them, they were going to a talent graveyard.
    And some who are good talented kids that can't stand what their coach is about. That don't respect him. Not every kid/person can be treated the same and will respond the same. That's what relating to your players means. That's what good recruiters do, they talk to their coaches, teachers, parents, family friends and find out what kind of person they are and then you figure out how to relate. Or you can be a stubborn dictator and have attrition problems and get mediocre results and effort ...because believe it or not kids that don't leave but don't want to be here are even worse. Raymone Andrews didn't want to be here but Marlin wouldn't release him...that worked out great.

    There is some real good advice in there. Never stop recruiting.

    For the record Raymone Andrews threatened to leave under Lee.

    For the record Marlin is the only coach I know who created a mutiny.

    Then he should have been granted his release

    Gradnigo was threatening at the same time but I think both were happening in the tail end of the APR scare.

    I'm not sure the admin had a grasp on how to handle the situation especially early on.

    How many players have transferred in? You included Hedge in the transfers out but remember he transferred in. So a wash? Others coming in would alter the average.

    BTW-Turb-I like "osmosis pride". Original?

    Divide that number by championships and NCAA tourneys and you get Marlins success rate

    Hedge didn't transfer in from another DI or DII program, he was a junior college signee. He signed a letter-of-intent so technically he didn't transfer in without a scholarship. Just like other sports, JC athletes sign letters-of-intent and that is not necessarily true for all transfers.

    Thanks

    I think so. I just did a search in quotes for the phrase and the words did turn up back to back a couple times but separated by a comma in a list.

    Would that also apply to transfers out? CC-I'm not arguing this point. Just trying to get an idea if Marlin actually has a retention problem that is out of the ordinary. If he consistently has an issue, that's a flag.

    Davis never considered leaving to sit out. He was considering going the JC route for one year so as he could then go to the SEC. Despite what he thought a few weeks ago, I am fairly sure Davis does not want to leave today. There are three reasons why;

    1) He has come to realize that the JC world is not nearly as nice a place to live as where he lives todays. It finally hit him that his grades are not good enough to go to the SEC after only one year there. Remember the new 2.5 GPA rule to play in D1 after graduating from JC. I won't go into the details of his grades as that is private info. I will just say he is in no danger of losing eligibility but his grades from here would have to count to leave JC after one year and that it would be very difficult for him to get to the standard.

    2) He is looking forward to having the opportunity to show what he can do inside and outside which he will have here.

    3) Perhaps most importantly, he is scared about what his Mom will do to him if he ever thinks about leaving again.

    Not surprising as this is where the staff expected him to go. I expect to average over 20 ppg there as he won't be coming out if he has a rough stretch from the field. Good luck to him.
