From what I understand, Stalcup did not come as he did not graduate from JC with a 2.5 GPA. Graduating from JC is not enough anymore, you need to 2.5 to play in D1.

Well you'd know the specifics better than I, but thanks for confirming that he was never on campus.

Yes, Gradnigo left partially because Lebato moved on. However, Gradnigo's scholarship went to Bryant Mbamalu who became a key cog on the NCAA team of 2014. Kid worked his butt off to become a better player, was an outstanding student, and was the leader of the team. He is one of my favorite players due to the work ethic he demonstrated. He now plays professionally overseas. I argue trading Gradnigo for one year in order to get Mbamalu for four years is one of the best trades we ever made.

I'm not saying these are all his fault as there has to be a variety of circumstances, it the fact that underclassmen have left the program at an alarming rate can't be denied.
Kevin Brown left after graduating. He left as a fifth year senior with a year of eligibility remaining. He went to UNO where he was a starter. He realized Jonathon Stove would play ahead of him and that was one reason he left. When a guy leaves with a degree in hand, I view that as a successful tenure here.

We lost a kid because he "wasn't good enough"...he just committed to South Carolina. Davis has all he could want in front of him as far as playing time just sat out a year yet he was willing to leave and sit out another year or transfer down. Like I said earlier you can be naive if you want... Not all attrition is the same...the way you lose guys matters.
There were other reasons than not thinking he was good enough for Hassani Gravett leaving. We thought he was plenty good enough.

There are always other reasons except one....never Bob right? We lost a kid who is going to the SEC...you can't shine that turd

The truth is somewhere in the middle, but if given only two options, I'd venture "never Bob" is far more accurate than " always Bob."

Not that you are saying either.

A whole lot more "never bob" going on around here than "always Bob". Bob Marlin is not some unlucky innocent bystander in all of this. What is going on isn't "normal" or ""average" I hope more than anyone he turns it around but unless he drastically changes what he is doing and how he goes about recruiting and handling his players it's only a matter of time.

This has been an entertaining thread. The stances people are taking aren't black and white. It's strictly an argument of what shade of grey is accurate. Massive vitriol over shades of grey.

And I'm still not sure if Marlin's retention rate is above, below or on average.

By my count...if I didn't miss any...19 transfers, 3 quit and 3 non-qualify...another was just begged to stay and we are a long way from November. No way of knowing how many recruits we missed on because of issues, basketball is probably the biggest word of mouth sport there is.
