Its still a loss.. One I agreed with at the time but that's part of attrition. It's weird nobody blinks an eye when Hud's attrition problem is brought up. HUD is a good recruiter and had 4 years of success...look where it got him last year...4-8. Not all of those are Huds fault but it is his problem.

Then this comes up, he get in a fight, or was around a fight and get busted for weed. SOOOO....it is a repeat offense, and as some have stated, his weed problem becomes an issue.

Hedgeman has had no influence from Marlin February and this goes back to Marlins inability to recruit? Sound like BS to me.

Let me run this by all of you....two night ago my son came home with an F on ONE of his test...all other were A's. He was given extra time to complete the test and still refused to finish. Part of his punishment was to sit out the baseball game he had that night. He dressed out, went to the game, and helped in whatever capacity the coach allowed.

He handled the issue like a champ, and when he got home, he completed the assignment with no problems AND turned it in to be "graded". I am proud to say that my son manned up and I think he learned something.

Do any of you think that was harsh in any way? I don't. One of the biggest problems I think kids (Hedgeman included) is that they have no idea how to be responsible for their actions.

Oh...stop the BS about other D1 schools don't treat drug possession charges like we do. The ONLY reason LSU has their wuss of a drug policy is that of the almost 100 million dollar athletic budget and what the athletic department contributes to the school...same goes for ALL other schools.

Sorry BOP...looks like this morphed into something not directed to you. only the first sentence was a response to you.
You aren't kidding about that. I always appreciate parents that think ahead, think outside of themselves, and make discipline a learning tool rather than a "punishment" that their kids really end up not understanding in the long run. Kudos to you man.

I have no comment about the specifics of the drug stuff. We live in a complex world right now. And I know you and I disagreed about the other half of this story (Hedge mouthing off to Marlin; guess people forgot about that), but I do get and agree with setting a precedent, with a case like this.

But I think Hedge is an anomaly at the same time. Marlin has been rigid on some other departures.

Yet you won't hold a grown man responsible for anything?

Lebato was retained prior to Marlin just so Gradnigo would stay. Gradnigo was already holding the program hostage.

He is the head coach. It's his team and as long as he follows the University rules then I don't have anything to say about it.

BTW, I am holding someone else responsible for his action, Hedgeman. He knew the team rules, he knew that possessing an ILLEGAL drug is ....well illegal. Misdemeanor or not...its still illegal and he broke the rules he agreed to follow and if the consequences for him not following the rules were listed in the team rules and Marlin enforced them, I will not fault him in any way. Regardless if he can recruit or not. If he can't recruit...fire him.

His ability to recruit and his choice of disciplining a player for breaking the team rules are exclusive. Hell according to J1M (I think) 25% of the LSU football team and of course the honey badger are on weed. I don't believe that it is a far stretch of the imagination to think that UL is alone in this, therefore, let's compare UL, Villanova, Kentucky, and any other P5 basketball powerhouses and say they all have problems with dismissing players, weed, and general disciplinary issues and apply the issues that the teams has to the coaches. Do you think Coach Wright, Coach K, and company are bad recruiters? Didn't think so....but, of course, they are winning.

So you don't think any incident of a player leaving is on Marlin or his assistants? Every kid has been some snot nosed disrespectful bad apple? Jay Hedgeman getting in trouble does not justify every dismissal/transfer of Marlins players...like you were so eager to come here and imply.

I have never been a Marlin basher, but I agree retention has been an issue. A few more during his tenure that I haven't seen mentioned Davenport, Kevin Brown, Matt Moss, Cornell Barnett, Darnell Jackson, Javan Mitchell, and I think Courtney Wallace left mid season Marlin's first year as well. I'm not saying these are all his fault as there has to be a variety of circumstances, it the fact that underclassmen have left the program at an alarming rate can't be denied.

I did not imply anything, and it would be just as foolish to think that every kid is a brat, as it would be to believe that Marilin is the entire problem.

The fact is that you, nor (I think) anyone on here that you choose to believe knows what goes on behind closed doors. If you did, I would wager a lofty sum that you would not be airing out UL's dirty laundry on this site. Nevertheless, in every instance when there is a disciplinary issue with a STUDENT ATHLETE, they have broken a team rule. The disciplinary policy is established UL and vetted by the NCAA to ensure that it meets the NCAA standard.

"Student-athletes are representatives of the Institution and shall conduct themselves accordingly. They are often the most prominent individuals the general public associates with the institution.
The student-athlete shall" excerpt from the UL student-athlete handbook. In fact, it is the opening sentence to the code of conduct section. An additional excerpt from the policy "The intent of this misconduct policy is not to supersede any other NCAA or University policy. It is meant to set high standards relating to the Department's expectations of how student-athletes represent the University of Louisiana ... at Lafayette."

"Remember, it is a privilege with considerable responsibility, to represent this Institution through its athletics program."

FYI...I do my research before I open my mouth.

I said it at least 3 times...it isn't all his fault but it is all his problem....and it is a problem. You have no idea what I know...I don't see the need to air dirty laundry at this point, he isn't going anywhere.
