Beau, they count in your class just like football. You signed them, then they are part of the attrition in your class. Debo Williams and others for football, there is no difference. For those that mentioned where they ended up at, if a player is leaving after a junior he can only transfer to a DII school. So that is misleading as well.
Pretty sure Coleby was a backup with Witchita State playing about 12 minutes a game and averaged about 2 pts and 2 rebounds a game. You could argue he would have been a much more productive player with the Cajuns.
Kimani Jackson red-shirted his year in JUCO and signed as the heralded 5th rated JUCO with Colorado State. Last year he averaged 9 minutes a game scoring 2.4 points and 2.1 rebounds. You could argue he also would have been a much more productive player with the Cajuns.
Gravitt hasn't played yet so there's no knowing how that will turn out.
After leaving JUCO, Kentwan Smith did have two productive years with Stetson Hatters averaging 9.5 points and 5 rebounds as a junior (2013-2014 team record 7-24) and a team best 13.8 points and team best 6.8 rebounds as a senior (2014-2015 team record 9-22)
Both Thomas brothers were reported to have contacted the Cajuns after leaving about returning but were turned down. After leaving the Cajuns Pancake Thomas signed with New Mexico and averaged 15 minutes per game with 3.9 points and 2.4 rebounds before deciding to transfer again to the University of Hartford where he sat out the 2014-2015 season due to the transfer rule. He had a great season in 2015-2016 being named to the second team of the America East conference where he averaged 18.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.8 assists while leading the team at 34.6 minutes per game where his team finished 10-23.
I think kids always think things are greener somewhere else and in some cases don't understand what may be best for them because the don't have the experience to make that decision. They listen to family or friends and don't want to put up with rules and discipline.
I don't think Bob Marlin is a perfect coach. I'm not personally happy with the state of the program, and I think our recruiting needs to vastly inprove. I don't like seeing Stephen F Austin or other Southland schools (or other mid-major conferences for that matter) seem to be able to consistently recruit better quality players while we have what I consider to be a school with much more upside.
Bob is a good X's and O's guy but he can't relate to the kids. This isn't the 50's anymore, you gonna rule with an iron fist you better be able to back it up with proof of success. You can have teach discipline and not be a dik. If you want be a disciplinarian lead from the front and have some yourself. You gonna sit people for being late? Trying being punctual yourself. Would you respect your boss that would chew your ___ everytime you are late and he rolls in an hour after you everyday? You can sit here and spit this and that...you know what you could say that they would have been better off here but they didn't stay. Some of these kids sat out a year and were so miserable are willing to leave and go juco or sit another year...that should tell you they really want out. We shouldn't have any kids that want to leave this city.
