One of the last few guys that were coached by Deggs.

I suspect he understands what the current hitting coach is trying to get across.

Mills has been a pleasant surprise this year. And he might be our best "clutch hitter". He has a knack for getting hits right when we need them. I'm definitely on the B Mills bandwaggon

He may have been recruited by deggs but I don't think he was coached by him. Thurman, Clement, Robbins and Conrad are the only ones left I think that we're coached by Deggs.

Tony mentioned it earlier this week that Mills is one of the guys that really gets the system. He's a fastball hunter which is what the system is supposed to be about. Said a few guys will sit there and watch two fastballs go early in an at bat, but Mills is doing what he's supposed to do more often than not

He definitely swings early in counts when he gets a pitch to hit. I think he actually had 2 pitches for 2 outs early in the game against Nichols. But that aggressiveness pays off

The system is definitely about hunting the fast ball...unfortunately it looked like we chased the fast ball for the first half of the season instead of hunting it.

I think Sensley, in particular, would have more success if he would swing at fastballs earlier in the count. He almost always takes the first fastball he sees for a strike.

---Considering what you said about the first strike fastball---just think of the book that they probably have on all batters----fastballs, breaking stuff, off speed, where and when, etc----then the tendencies to hit a ball in what direction and the fielders in a better position for the play----I can remember the book on kids in the Catholic NO League and the signs from the catcher to the SS to the outfield on what the pitch was going to be---and yes there is a book on the pitchers and their tendencies to throw what and when---such a great game to guess and converse as to the plays called!!!

I agree but I also think he has improved with the breaking ball, patience at the plate, and not swinging for home runs. And his batting average is climbing.

U are very correct. And the difference has been the recent success we have had offensively. I'm sure our walks have gone up also

There is no doubt that he is improving and is less suseptible to the breaking ball than he was at the beginning of the season. You can see his potential in his HR at bat agains LSU (3-2 count that started 0-2 and he fouled off at least 3 pitches) and his at bat in the sixth inning on Tuesday night. If he continues to improve, we will continue to get better.
