You are right, they do defend and they are an excellent rebounding team which very few people talk about, even though they play a lot of small ball. They were just the exception not the rule. Its hard to think of a time where a team has more than 50% of its scoring from a backcourt that gets most of its shots outside of the lane. At some point, the law of averages will take over and correct things but it hasn't with these guys in two full years now.
The outside shooting is a major factor as it tightens the defense and creates more back cuts by the guards but its also the ability to pull every single big man they have out of the lane and run the offense through them, thus allowing Curry and Thompson to actually run off ball screens and run cuts to the basket rather than just giving them the ball and telling them to create.
They do this because most of their bigs can hit the outside shot well and they are excellent passers which many teams are now starting to emulate. Its essentially the spread offense of NBA basketball.
i'm in a good situation for sports talk radio where i live. i get 2 fm stations from little rock. one is geared primarily toward espn programming, while the other is mostly local programming staffed by former UA jocks, a local sportswriter, etc. when the local guys start in with their schtick, like steve, ryk, or bitter, i just turn over to the espn station.
