You got me thinking of a stable or fixed, consistent orbit and rotation around the Sun.
Not that the Bible writers thought in those terms, because outside of the Bible saying the Earth was a circle or sphere and hung upon nothing, it doesn't really delve into the subject.
Am I missing something here? The Son is the center of the universe. The Son of God, Jesus Christ. ☺️
I must be in the wrong thread.
He isn't supporting the suppression of science. He, like me, want science to get this right. But as long as you poke spirituality for suppressing science... I'm unhappy how science has overreached in order to suppress spirituality. I don't believe science can debate anything beyond the physical. Yet they've disliked the flaws of religion so much they're bent on destroying spirituality. I believe in the Big Bang... and that God was there to hear it.
Stephen Hawking: "What I meant by 'we would know the mind of God' is, we would know everything that God would know, if there were a God. Which there isn't. I'm an atheist." He added: "Religion believes in miracles, but these aren't compatible with science."
Hawking had/has a large following. He used science to disprove the spiritual realm. He is not alone. It wasn't just his personal choice as a nonbeliever. He attempted to dismantle religions with science. You can say that he couldn't... but that didn't stop him from trying. Many people answer the question of their faith with "I am a man of science".
I dont understand how he or anyone could disprove another's faith. Isnt the definition of faith believing with out proof or seeing?
What in that quote makes it sound like he was trying to dismantle YOUR faith?
Hawking is in the business of influencing thinking, some based on theory some based on hypothesis. He often leaves his sourcebook at home.
Not so different from those Bishops mentioned earlier.
I never said he's proven it. You said climate scientists can't provide proofs... but I hope you don't expect us to adopt man made climate change on a faith basis. Hawking used science, as does Richard Dawkins, to attempt to disprove religion. Don't make me quote Dawkins to "prove" my point. Dawkins, the militant atheist Oxford science professor, encourages removing all scientists from major science committees if they are not professed atheists. He claims that religion and faith are mental illnesses. And yes, he claims that science disproves the teachings of the great religions. He claims evolution disproves creationism. He isn't alone. And he wags his science credentials around academic circles to encourage more followers.
I thought belief in man made climate change was their religion?
I dont get your first statement.
Thats where my lack of understanding comes in. What could someone say or do that would undermine one's faith? Hawking cant do an experiment to gather data that your belief system is wrong.
If creationism means that life has not changed from how it was created, then he is correct that evolution disproves creationism.
