He's steady, dependable, and when healthy, pretty good.

Bryce will be the leader on this team next year.

Bryce has been the leader of this team for the last two years. Love Shawn, but Bryce is the team leader.

He is also the only returning Cajun to lead the conference in any positive stat [FG%]. With Shawn now graduated, I expect Washington will take more shots next year. Do not be surprised if he has a 15ppg-9rpg kind of year.

I agree this will be Bryce's team the next two years. Stove also started to take on leadership qualities towards season's end. Those two guys won't let next season be the dreadful experience some of you believe is inevitable. Evans will be fine at point. He may not make the spectacular play but he will make few mistakes. I don't think we are looking at any more guards unless someone else leaves. We need a JUCO big man and several are being looked at. Sorry, I don't have any names. I do think one played at an Idaho JUCO.

Mike, for us to be good next year will require Marlin to run an offense that fits our players skill sets. We did not do that very well this year, and if we run the same thing next year, it will still not fit.

100% agree that it was Bryce's team this year. Look for big things from him next year.

Agree we will have to adjust the offense next year. It should be more guard oriented. In Josh Parrott's interview with CajunT last week, he remarked that when Coach Marlin had his most success at Sam Houston, he did feature guards with a 4 man who was versatile. That is why I think Jekarius Davis will play a lot at the 4 spot as he is a good athlete. Hopefully, he runs something similar to when he had success with the Bearkats.

It took him 12 years to get to 2 NCAA tourneys. He's about on schedule1 in his first six. Never sniffing regular season title.

I disagree, Mike. His best players are likely to be guys who are most effective inside. Stove is a guard, sort of, but is most effective penetrating, and I get the vibe that Bartley is similar. Washington, Davis and Miller are all inside guys. Only Wright and Evans and are traditional guards.

With that group I would run high screens with my bigs and pick and roll off of them. I would spot up Wright or Evans in the baseline corner opposite the pick. We talk about Little Rock and 3s, but they beat us with open layups and short jumpshots off the high pick and roll.

Good points there VO about having some guys who should be effective inside next year. I do think Stove will hit a few jump shots next year. He showed signs of being effective from the outside in the CIT.

I don't think Marlin is "picking" anybody at this point. We can't recruit right now which makes getting quality bigs and good shooters even tougher. It's been an alarming issue for Marlin and this program in regards to player retention though.

Are you sure Sam Houston never won the SLC regular season title when Coach Marlin was there. I thought they had won a couple in his time there.

I looked up how many times Coach Marlin won the regular season title at Sam Houston. The answer is 4. Bearkats won the SLC in 2000, 2003, 2009, and 2010. With the SLC being a one bid league, they went to the NCAA tourney the two times they won the tournament which was 2003 and 2010 That is four regular season titles in 12 years which is probably one reason we were optimistic he could do similar here. Agree it is disappointing we have not come close to the regular season title in his six years here.
