Shooting guard will not be with the program for his senior season
---T- I think this also, he showed in the conference tourney this ability, but he was hesitant to shoot ---If he shoots the 3 like he did at the end he could be very special!!! Take me back to HS days of Stove, Wash, and Plaisance and their accolades---Seem to remember the tops in the state???
I think all Cajun fans wish Hayward well as he moves on from here. This may be best for him as being away from home may allow him to progress and he may not feel as much pressure in another setting. As far as the cajun roster for next year goes, there are 12 scholarship players at this time and they can add one more, possibly two if someone else leaves. That roster includes 5 returnees, 1 transfer, 2 redshirts who will play as freshman, 2 fall signees, and 2 spring commitments. I expect the next scholarship to go to a JUCO inside guy and I understand that is the current recruiting focus. Note, that means six of our 12 scholarship players will be freshman. That does not mean I will buy into being young as an excuse for a poor season. Our starting lineup will consists of one senior and three juniors (transfer Bartley is likely to be a starter). 5th spot will be manned by either the yet to be named JUCO inside player, redshirt freshman Davis, or the freshman from Kentucky named Miller. As Davis is a redshirt and Miller is at a prep school, they are like sophomores. Experience in the starting lineup will not be a problem. The freshman will mostly be in support roles off the bench.
UL — Shooting guard Hayward Register's days with Louisiana's basketball team are over, coach Bob Marlin confirmed in a statement Thursday afternoon. "Hayward has asked for and has been granted his release (to transfer) for next season," ...
thanks, hayward, and godspeed.
I have often thought of that comparison as well between Stove and Bridges. Register would have been the only 4th year Senior on the roster next year and probably just didn't want to have to compete with freshman for off the bench playing time. He may have seen the writing on the wall going up against Bartley and Davis in practice this year. Wish him the best and hope he finds his stroke whoever he goes.
McGuire is sticking to football next year. Which is a smart move for Eli.
