You have no idea... I was calling out his lap times to him so we knew he was close... we were told all week long that the record was 31:03 so we were pacing a 31 flat (74.4 second laps)... well, he fell off a little in lap 3 and 4, made it up laps 7-12, and then turned on the jets with about 600 to go.
When we saw the clock, everybody that was left in the stands (not many distance fans out there.. LOL) was cheering... but then they made an announcement that it was the SECOND fastest time in school history, and the third fastest time in the NCAA (won't hold up for long... they just haven't had that many 10K's run yet)... so the wind was let out of our sails for a second... but then they did some quick checking, and the 30:47 that they were looking at was for a 6 MILE (was set in 1972)... so his time of 10:56 is officially the fastest 10K in school history, and if you convert the 10K to 6 mile, that would be a 29:48 which would have crushed the old record by almost a full minute.
