You have to establish continuity and there is none. Last year we were what like 15 and 13 mid way. Same comments about last years team at this point. What changed last year the lineup was set and things turned around. Keeping Derrick out of any game is mind boggling. He does everything well, which is more than most! Set the lineup! When Clem comes back make one adjustment.
Sensely showed a canon for an arm as well. I like him in RF a lot. Platoon Edwards and Mills in LF and put Herrington in CF.
Joe Robbins is a freakin Gold Glover at 3B. Why are we wasting his talent playing him out of position? Kasuls is coming around and can stay at SS. Put Brenn back at 2B, his little flip throws from Third are terribly wrong for that position. He's making the same throw as if he would at 2B. You need an ARM at 3B and Robbins has that plus a better glove.
T... Maybe ask if the juggle of the defensive lineup has carried over to the Inconsistency on the offensive side of things.
This will not be a popular opinion, but it's time to consider sitting Trosclair. He needs to catch his head. I don't know if he's feeling the pressure of the team looking to him to be the alpha leader or what, but he's not even close to his All America reputation right now. I feel bad for the guy. Not only has he been bad at the plate, but his defense and decision making have been abysmal, and no one is talking about it.
Kasuls played really well last night and attacked the baseball for the first time. But again, he and Tros have ZERO chemistry up the middle. I blame some of that on shuffling the line up, but as a senior leader, YOU Stefan, have to step up and take the reigns.
I got fussed at earlier in the year for questioning Thurman, but again last night, he was very sloppy and cost us a run. I'm still not convinced that he is 100%.
I don't see any other way; Joe has got to be at 3rd, Derek in CF, and for goodness sake, who the hell is going to play 1st base? Of the many things to be embraassed about last night, Pinero "hot-doggin" it to first base was at the top of my list. My 9 year old leaned into me and said "Dad, Pinero didn't run thru the bag. We would sit the bench for that!" I won't even start on his laughable attempt at poor throws.
If Talbot is bucking the system about his guys playing, we have an even bigger problem. I'd take Deggs' leftover guys any day over what I've seen so far from Talbot's recruits. No disrespect meant, but the gap in attitude is a Grand Canyon.
Not a fan of benching Trosclair..even a game like yesterday can boost his confidence. He had two solid at bats including the lead off walk which led to a score. Hopefully, he can build off of that and use it as encouragement. If I'm coaching him, this is what I would do anyways. I like the move to lead off. I would like to see him just DH for a while until he is out of the slump as it is probably effecting his defensive play as well.
You are right in that he also probably feeling most of the pressure. I don't know how to fix it but I'm not so sure putting him on the bench is going to boost his confidence, which is what he needs the most right now in my opinion.
I agree with you on Thurman, love the kid but I haven't been impressed with his play lately.
I don't think this is an issue of confidence. It looks like, in my opinion, a guy that is wilting under the pressure of feeling like he needs to be the leader of a team, when inside, he knows his personality is not conducive to that kind of pressure. Let him sit and watch the team do it without him for a week, ease his mind, and let him relax.
