This doesn't have anything to do with calling "it"..."narrative"... but I literally know 1000 jokes and fire them off for hours. One thing I learned a long time ago was to use a cute name for "it" when telling some of my raunchy (but hilarious) jokes around the ladies. I've got good pet names for "it"... and you can tell the dirtiest joke on the planet to church ladies as long as you use funny pet names. What I get is "what did you call it?"... and my pet names crack them up more than the joke itself.
