Monmouth has been the most discussed since for the last two weeks, most predicted they would be in the tourney regardless of whether they won their conference tourney or not. However, I think St. Bonaventure was the most jobbed of all of them. With an RPI in the 20's, you would think they should get in but the committee seemed to favor wins in the top 50 and a willingness to play tough games on the road OOC which the Bonnies did not really do. Had they beat Syracuse, I think they would have gotten in since they have as many top 50 wins as Kentucky does.
I have no idea on Vandy as I didn't think they should get in.
I was messing with Express for hammering on Marlin just for answering the question. Regardless of our situation, Marlin has the right, if not the obligation, to weigh in on the selection committee's snubbing of highly successful mid majors. The circumstances that are combining at every turn to keep even highly successful mid major programs from gaining post season opportunities is pathetic.
Agreed....what was he suppose to do? No comment? That would have been a field day. Regardless of where the Cajuns finished EVERY mid-major program should have their admin and coaches screaming from the rooftops. That is the only chance we have moving forward to have somethig more equitable.
I think mid major coaches are part of the solution. I have long thought the better mid majors need to schedule each other. Over time I think the product of more schools would improve, as well as recruiting. Nail biting, gut wrenching games would probably attract more fans. If more mid majors are really good, as a block they would have more influence. Maybe then they could push for a limit of schools per conference invited.
All season I've heard very negative words about the basketball program. Who would want to go to the Cajundome after hearing all this feedback? Is next year's team going to be any better?
I think mid majors like UL, with better than average interest in this sport in their region, must put their heads together and raise the bar of mid major basketball.
I think mid major coaches and their schools refuse to try something new. If no bold measures are taken, what you see is what you're going to get next year, and next decade for that matter. Are we any better off than what Jessie Evans left behind? Or Fletcher? Or Paschal? Or Shipley?
Mid major basketball needs a stimulus.
I am not singling out any one coach or school.
