I feel better at this point in season having a talented team that isn't playing well, than vice versa. There is still time to put things together, and in the end pitching can carry this group a long way. Yes it's frustrating to watch, but good things are coming for this group
You are correct we have plenty of season left to get ourselves right and turn the corner. I think most, myself included, just don't see this team showing any leadership, discipline, fundamentals and instincts. We all know the talent is there, but if they struggle between the ears, it will be difficult to make the necessary adjustments to turn the season around. Put simply, I'll still go to the games until the season ends and pull for my Cajuns, but I don't have a whole lot of faith that they have the wherewithal to turn it around. I would love to eat a big plate of crow and be wrong about this, but these guys don't pass the eye test for me. As many others have alluded to, we need some blue collar grinders. These guys play the game like they will win if they just show up and go through the motions, then show a little panic in the 7th-9th innings once they realize it didn't work out like they had planned it in their heads.
Why is Robbins still at lead off? He is 23 for 50 or .460 and is our most productive hitter. Wouldn't it benefit us if there are people on base when he is at bat?
It's an issue of "chemistry", the sum being greater than the parts. Players making other players better, that type of thing. This team is loaded with talent, just doesn't show it yet. Brenn and Joe are very, very good players, but can't carry a team themselves.
How many times did you see Jace, Sug and Seth smash RBI doubles, triples, pop up and "throw the team on their backs"? Alot. We don't have the rest of the team responding yet.
I'm hopeful they will when it counts. this weekend would be a good time to start.
