Poncho has passed the eye test for me, especially at the plate. Everyone wants to look at statistics, which there is nothing wrong with that, but I see a guy who hasn't gotten fooled at the plate and has hit the ball hard 5 times in 5 at bats. Sure he's batting .200 which is right at the Mendoza line. And sure he may swing at too many first pitches, but I welcome that aggression when we have a team who is sitting the bat on their shoulders a little too much and we're struggling to get the timely hit. I remember last year when some people were saying he may be as good as BT when all is said and done, which leads me to this... Has he shown sub-par fielding and range in the fall and early spring practice? We've seen some struggles from our newcomer short stops and had to move Robbins over to solidify the spot. Is poncho not capable of playing ss at the college level?

Totally agree with you on the offense. Wasn't trying to downplay his bat or anything. The ability to put the ball in play every time is big and he has hit it hard like you mention.

This team was struggling against midweek UNO pitching and has played some ugly baseball at times. That said, they are still 5-3 and pretty much gave away a win to T-Tech so there is hope. If we start swinging at fastballs down the plate we will win and win alot.

Great thoughts. I see the same with him offensively. I'm curious to see what he can do in the field.

UNO was 6-1 entering last night, including a win over La Tech and a close loss to a pretty good USM team. UNO is not a bad team. This is not the same 14-40 UNO team you saw last year.

No question he's the best defensive outfielder. There are options here. Of course, none are as good has having Clement in the lineup.

You could see somewhat of a platoon here. Mills/Edwards/Sensley in the OF against RHP. Mills/Herrington/Edwards against RHP. Of course, Fontenot remains in the picture as well.

They like Poncho. I think he's going to get a crack at being the everyday DH.

Again, good that there are options. BUt the loss of Clement means it's going to take a little longer to figure things out.

I think Joe Robbins is our best outfielder in addition to being our best infielder. He had some amazing throw outs from center field last year.
