Look I think the reality is outside of the La Tech game we can not be too dissappointed. Granted we should have won vs TCU, but they are a good team. La Tech was a game that on paper we should have won easily, but we didn't. Their will be more of this dissappointing losses, because this is baseball and that happens every year, but overall we are 6-3. Hopefully 7-3 after tonight.
We are 5-3. Hopefully 6-3 after we beat the pokes!!
Bart Giamatti said, "It (baseball) is designed to break your heart." We will absolutely have more frustration and some heartache. My comment was not meant to predict wins and losses. Odd/sad things happen in baseball (see Kyle Clement). I will guarantee only one thing. We are going to be proud this program is ours... as we have always been. And I am going to enjoy the journey... warts and all.
I've said for years you can tie yourself up in knots as a fan if you look at baseball with a football mentality
I've noticed two things over the last couple of years.
More and more of you have come to understand the difference.
It's becoming very easy to pick out those who haven't gotten it yet. Fortunately, that number is dwindling.
Good to see guys like Herrington and Poncho come through in key spots. Herrington has been a defensive sub most of his career and rarely gets to bat (fewer than 50 ABs last year). He had a couple nice at bats (a 9 pitch walk earlier and the RBI single)
Poncho came through with the winning run on his first career hit. He's now just 1/5 on the year but has contributed with a couple of walks as well and hasnt struck out so far.
No question he's the best defensive outfielder. There are options here. Of course, none are as good has having Clement in the lineup.
You could see somewhat of a platoon here. Mills/Edwards/Sensley in the OF against RHP. Mills/Herrington/Edwards against RHP. Of course, Fontenot remains in the picture as well.
They like Poncho. I think he's going to get a crack at being the everyday DH.
Again, good that there are options. BUt the loss of Clement means it's going to take a little longer to figure things out.
