I disagree that we didn't play good defense. Seems to me we played aggressively (double teams, pressing) by design which creates open baskets. I thought we played good defense for the majority of the game, except for last 10 mins of first half - we gave up way to many easy baskets.
Little Rock made some VERY tough baskets. They shot extremely well and we shot poorly from 3. To me, that was the difference tonight
Doc, then we are going to disagree. I got a real good look at the game next to BOP and the stats don't lie. Did they make some prayers at times, yes a few of them. But we really didn't play well defensively and were out rebound at half time. They ran their offense most of the night and we didn't get many stops until middle of the second half, things starting to change.
I'm not saying it was the best defensive performance, but we played them tough. Not making stops sometimes has to do with the skills of the offense, and I think k we can all agree they made several tough shots.
And I don't think our D is why we lost that game. I blame our offense for that - TOs and missed 3s
Think of say losing by 3-4 points and think about the times we got lost on the defensive end for uncontested lay ups.....think about the great defense we would play only to have a 3pointer go in with 2 seconds on the shot clock....also good to only to have a foul called with 2 seconds left!!! This and not hitting the 3 s killed us!!!
Yes - two seed is absolutely crucial. LR is beatable in New Orleans. Cajuns can shoot better. As someone mentioned above, similar to GSU a couple years back...
Cajuns are not in bad position, but DO NOT want to finish tied with Monroe for 2nd, because the Cajuns would be the #3 seed. Tiebreaker would be ULMost 1-1 vs. LR and Cajuns 0-2. So, IMHO, this was not a good game to lose.
Arlington still has to go to LR (a likely loss), so I'm not too worried about them... ULMost has the same schedule we have left. We have to stay ahead of them by the game we are currently ahead - by doing as good or better than them with our remaining schedule... I think Cajuns need to at least split the two road trips (Texas and Alabama) and take care of the GA teams at home...
Should be an exciting stretch run!
No doubt thete was a lot of that. A lot of that was because we were ultra aggressive defensively. Think about when other teams double Long. Are they playing "bad" defense by leaving someone else open? Maybe so. But its by design. I think a lot of those open baskets by LR were a result of that (not all, but several)
Doc, this was my original post. I don't think it was clearly all on the defense.
"There is no need for over analysis for me, we didn't play good defense for 3/4ths of the game and shot poorly from the perimeter. Make no mistake about this team, Little Rock is a very good team and they are very well coached."
