How many of you identify as "the baseball crowd"?

Basketball is number 1 for me. I've always enjoyed the game and my 4 years on campus as a student were the last 3 of the Evans era and the first under Lee, so either an NIT or NCAA team each year and it was always exciting. I buy the all access package for the season each year, try to make a day trip for a Saturday game once or twice (will be at my 2nd game of the season tomorrow) and then radio pup for any game I can't watch online.

Football would be number 2, it's easy to follow with only 12 games. Being from out of town I try to make one or two games each year, but with ESPN3 coverage I don't think I've missed a snap over the past few years.

I follow baseball and softball but I'm not hanging on every pitch. I'm sure if I lived in Lafayette I would be at the ballpark a lot and be into it much more, but I'm not dedicating 10 hours of my weekend in the spring to watching online. Once again if I know a game is on and I'm driving or doing something around the house I will tune in on radio pup.

Softball first, then basketball. I feel the same way about baseball that Jay feels about softball. I don't hate baseball, just too slow. Different perspectives I guess.

Mark, its interesting you call baseball a slower game. It used to be. But with the new restrictions between innings and the time limit to pitch if no one is on base, that has sped it up some.

But I find softball to be a much slower game today. Two many conferences allowed, too much time allowed for those conferences, too many people allowed to participate in those conferences.

And, pitcher's don't throw strikes anymore. They nibble.

Do they have to go to a full count on EVERY hitter???

This past season there were many nine inning baseball games that were shorter than seven inning softball games.

Basketball for me but I think most of you know that. Reason for this choice not is simply because I enjoy the sport due to It's non stop action. Reason I support this most is because it is the one sport with the potential to bring us the most recognition. Due to the weather issue, the diamond sports are not covered nationally no matter what you accomplish. With so many minor bowl games today, getting into one is not a big deal. Basketball on the other hand brings your school recognition on CBS if you are mentioned on Selection Sunday and that notice goes up exponentially if you pull one upset. I will be the first to admit we have not taken advantage of that potential in recent years. It is still there for the taking however.

Basketball will never get UL into another conference ranked or unranked. Football drives the bus and always will on a national level.

I like baseball, but I can't sit for three to four hours for a college baseball game. I attend about 2 to 3 baseball games a year and of course the regionals.
Basketball is fun, exciting, and usually only about 2 hours long. Easier to attend, even on weeknights.

I am not trying to argue with you, but most baseball games finish under 3 hours. I have been to over a dozen of them over the last couple of years that were barely 2 hours. Baseball also has one of the best beer selections around.

I like baseball just because you get to sit and relax and enjoy the weather and drink beer all while watching some good baseball.

Well, that is good to know, because that hasn't been my experience. I may try to attend a few more games this year. I am going to watch them in Houston in a couple of weeks. But, I need to make sure I can make it to New Orleans for basketball tournament, also.

I did a quick look at games last year and probably 80% of the games were completed in the 2:20 to 2:40 mark. It was rare to find a game go beyond three hours unless it was extra innings or high scoring.

Softball is a little harder to get a quick number on due to the number of 5 inning games the Cajuns played last year but its pretty obvious the game is much slower than baseball. Saw a lot of 7 inning games that pushed the 2:20 to 2:30 mark.

Softball could easily be fixed if they would just cut out the number of conferences they allow.
