Thread: Long Repeats As LSWA Men's Basketball Player Of The Week

  1. Default Long Repeats As LSWA Men's Basketball Player Of The Week

After recording a pair of double-doubles, helping extend the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball win streak to eight games and becoming the 19th player in NCAA history to score 2,100 points and grab 1,300 rebounds, senior forward Shawn Long was named on Monday as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Men's Basketball Player of the Week in a release by the organization.__

He was also named the Mid Major College Player of the Week.

The LSWA will just have to change the name of the award to the Shawn Long Award.

Channel 3 sports tonight reported Shawn is the 19th player in college basketball HISTORY to score over 2000 points and garner over 1300 rebounds. As Jay Walker said today on his show, he sucks as a player doesn't he? I don't think the majority of fans understand how difficult it is to accomplish what he has done here or realize the significance of his accomplishments.

I took him for granted for years. I am only now realizing how truly amazing what he is doing is. He is going to set records that may NEVER be broken

Long is actually the 19th player in D1 history with 2100 points & 1300 rebounds. I tweeted that after his last game. He's in the company of some big names on that list.

Long is also tied for 19th in D1 history with 68 double-doubles. Other two with 68: Larry Bird and David West. He should finish in the top 15 all time and possibly even the top 10 if he maintains his current production.

"4 scores and 20 rebounds ago" it kept dawning on me how good this guy really is. ... and those weren't the first times in time.

Mike, have you felt that the "majority of the fans" have been down on Shawn in the past? Or, has it been the vocal minority? I've read threads on here where a total of 4 posters pressed a particular subject, only to read someone else post "the fans" or "the forum" or "this board" blah blah blah. How many of our fans have said that Shawn "sucks as a player"? I actually do not recall that ever having been written on this forum. I've only read comments questioning his attitude. And in reality, I think he's been a little "different"... hard for most fans to read. If having been "questioned" gave him more to prove... great for Shawn proving himself. But that belongs to Shawn and no one else.

It'll be interesting to see if they give the Player of the Year to him or to Simmons. Their numbers are very similar, so I can see that weighing in Simmons favor since he is at the "flagship" and just a freshman and of course a sure fire lottery pick. I wonder if Shawn leads us to a conference championship if that would put him over the top or if its just inevitable that Simmons gets it. My gut says Simmons probably a lock for it because of the factors listed.

It would take an incredible amount of honor for the writers to pick the right guy, would go against most of their readers desires.

---Seeing Larry Bird's name pop up---Wonder if Long ever got a triple double or a double double in any other way except Pts and RBs??? Also while I am at it---Anybody ever get a quad double---BTW is this the correct terminology with the doubles???
