Spikes was interested with the idea of immediate playing time. That factor doesn't always secure a commitment, but it did in this case. _
By the way... I know several have said it before, but it is worth saying again. Like most on this board, I've been following the Cajuns for many years and I can attest to the fact that we have never had this level of reporting from The Advertiser on UL athletics. Between you and CajunT, we now have more information on a timely basis than ever before. Thanks to both of you!

It's certainly nice to know that people appreciate the work and research that goes into covering the beat, especially when there are limitations that are beyond my control. Thank you for that. But I'm definitely not doing it by myself.

The rise of the Internet age and social networking has helped supplement the traditional print coverage. So while newspapers continue to lose room in the print edition, there's almost unlimited space online and in blogs that's being utilized.

Great job & thanks. I know print media is struggling and trying to find a way in this new age. If they want me to pay for online access then this is the type of coverage I expect. There are to many specialized areas of coverage in this day & age. Currenty the only thing I pay for is SouthEast Baseball on Rivals. They do a very good job and I'm willing to shell out a few bucks to them. As you note it is no longer about picking up the paper at the curb. Now we want it posted and an email alert so we know something new has just been put up.

Times have certainly changed in the media age, although I truly believe that newspapers can stay viable because of their ability to produce well-written and well-researched stories on multiple topics both on tight deadlines and through long-term projects.

You get a description of facts in game and feature stories along with observations from players and coaches in their own words. The APR project I did last spring took weeks of research and provided in-depth information unavailable anywhere else.

Those are a few examples of what you can get from newspapers, regardless of your views on the direction of the industry (which has nothing to do with those of us producing the information itself).

I know you guys are excited about National Signing Day getting here. I'm ready for this to all be official so we can move on to baseball, softball and spring football.

Often the case...in fact, maybe more often that not...

Work ethic may be measured best when no coaches are watching...
