  1. Default University retains Tree Campus USA title

UL Lafayette’s forest management practices have helped it retain the designation of Tree Campus USA.

So the thirty year old oaks didn't matter to them.

Okay, I guess I missed this.
Which 30 year old oaks are you referring to?

I'm tickled pink we are getting that much needed facility inhancement. Let's grow trees where they belong. Loved the shade but it was the right thing to do.

With you 100%. Drove by that travesty in Iberia Parish, 90 @ Weeks Island exit today. You know, the tree our state paid 375k to move, now has it's own water well and arborist?

Just like the trees/batting cages, don't simply plant something without thinking where.

And if you do it isn't a sin to acknowledge the mistake, or changing needs. I'm all for replacing trees that are removed but we even move graveyards when that land need becomes manifest.

    Video of the move.

I would have preferred they use the $300,000 on Hwy. 90.; especially in Iberia Parish.

Have a row of real nice cypress seedlings (from UL) down at my parents house...planted 30-40 years ago. Darn fine trees! Even looks like that is where Mother Nature intended them to be. Real conservation is where desire meets common sense.

What a waist of money. They could have made that tree into fine oak lumber and built some cabinets or a table and actually profited instead of throwing money away. I like trees but to make a big deal out of 1 where a future interstate or road will be is just rediculous. If you had to sacrifice a few trees for the beautiful new union then so be it it's a freaking tree. It's not like you killing thousands of babies a year which is ok with most tree huggers in this country.

Some folks have their priorities all screwed up in this country.

Meanwhile there are about 20 bridges out in Iberia parish that they can't afford to fix
