He's pretty special. As for next year we have an alpha dog named Washington. He is a big, big man but we will absolutely need to find a new way to win. Long has been covering up other peoples mistakes on defense and to some degree offense for four years.
We have a pretty good player red shirting this year that will help next year BUT, to be clear, Shawn Long is making his mark on this team right now like no other player in a Cajun uniform in a "long" time!
You can't replace Long.
Plaisance will not need to replace Long. Just log really good minutes and protect the rim.
Let Bryce do the dirty work on this inside.....possibly find another big in juco?
*ULM ran an offense. They were constantly moving. Guys were rubbing off of multiple picks each set. That's disruptive. We get complacent at times and seem to wait for a play to be called while the shot clock is dwindling down to the 7 second mark, then panic time sets in.
GOOD FUN WIN last night.
Anyone who doubted whether Keith Richard can coach hasn't paid attention over the years. His teams play like he did (for Rick Huckaby at Redemptorist BR). Tough as nails.
He did a really good job at Tech and we had great matchups with him then.
He was hogtied when he first got to ULM. Their APR issues were horrible. Sanctions were worse. He had to recruit for academics and not basketball his first few years. He saw a light at the end of the tunnel when he brought Coppola and Ongwae in. They went 10-17 that year.
Then Roberson, Samuel and Deng arrived.
Munnings, who didn't play a ton last night, is going to be a good player for them. But his other first year guys have work to do.
My guess is he'll have to go heavy juco again. And, as it was a couple of years ago, the promise of immediate, meaningful playing time will help him get some good players.
If Shawn can play with that fire and hard work all the time, he's a first round draft pick. Last night was special.
