Man, it is stunning when you turn on Reinhardt and there's a lightpole that looks like it's in the middle of the street. The footprint is going to be impressive

That is correct. LED is getting there but mostly at NFL and NBA venues. Much higher up front costs but operating costs are much less. Last I heard the payback in the difference in cost was about 5 years. (depending on how often they are used.) The HID lights being put up are much more efficient than the ones that have been removed.

The goal is to get about 150 foot candles of light on the entire field. They both can do that. It takes more up front money to do it with LED. It takes more power to do it with HID. Pay me now psy me later. However, there will eventually be a "payback point" with LED.

150 foot candles would be a massive improvement and above and beyond what the NCAA requires for regionals/supers (100 infield/70 outfield per their best practices.)

I just drove by. The two light poles closest to home plate are almost comically high. I wonder if this was necessary due to the size of the roof?

Also, a couple years ago I had read that someone had supposedly purchased a new outfield wall. Anyone know the status of that? That wall has seen better days.

I was told that when the lighting survey was done prior to the Super Regional & Regional two years ago, some areas in the outfield came in at slightly under 20!!!! Some at UL were almost embarrassed to turn the survey into the NCAA.
