In the end though, the publics have staked their position, and since they have a huge majority I can't see anything changing without blowing the whole thing up.
It has worked for years in the most popular sport in the world. I think we can figure it out here for high school sports.

I would propose a review every two years, as you won't have JRs leaving for the NFL, like you would in college sports. And for a few other reasons.

There should be a review board for each sport though, right? For example, Carencro baseball football shouldn't get relegated if the basketball team can't compete in 5A. I think a divisions rearrangement would almost certainly have to take place.

Which column is the one that shows the vote that has ruined Louisiana High School sports?

Yes I know they do it for Soccer. Perhaps high school sports may have some different challenges than a professional sport. I'm not saying it can't work, just that I would suspect when you start getting to the nuts and bolt it will be complicated and rife for politics and mismanagment. Who is on the review board? Maybe they don't like this school or that that school.

I think some form of relegation/promotion system would be far superior to the current split. I'm just not sure we need to make it all that invasive. We are really only talking about a few schools who game the system and win all the time. All of these proposals are killing a fly with a bazooka.

You could do that but it wouldn't be nearly as effective. It really isn't that complex. At the end of a sports season you convene a conference of administrators/coaches who evaluate each classification and establish changes for the upcoming season. You aren't going to see whole sale changes between classifications. The only thing you are evaluating is the bottom and top levels of each classification.

Would these be the same administrators who keep voting to split? I'm not sure I trust them to make unbiased decisions.

Actually soccer uses it all the way down through the youth leagues. I've dealt with it for many years and while it isn't perfect I guarantee you that it is much better than the current LHSAA proposal. There are actually fewer issues implementing this at the youth level than the professional level.

Fair enough, I did not know that.

I agree, anything like this is better than the split.

Some way of automating it would be ideal to me....to take the politics out as much as possible.

It would be very hard to make a schedule, especially for the northern portion of the state where there aren't as many private schools. If you look at my post above, even here in Texas private schools have to schedule public schools in order to complete their schedules.

You can't leave this up to a vote. The vote buying would be epic for who gets promoted or not. This is Louisiana we're talking about. It would have to be set in stone rules. Like if you finish in the bottom 10% of your district for 3 years straight, you get dropped down. If you finish in the top 10%, you get promoted. No exceptions.
