I understand where you're coming from, I do. You think half the athletes, maybe even more than that, go to these private schools for the great education they provide? LOL! I don't think so! The go for the opportunity to win championships and play at the next level. Lets be real here and not simply state its a better academic environment that lures these stand-out athletes to these powerhouse programs. With all due respect, its the same song and dance that for years has been used to justify having multiple, legitimate college football players on one team. But lets not forget, they're here for the education! I'm sorry I just don't buy it. I appreciate your response and hope one day we can have a system that benefits us all.

Why do you think parents of non-athletes shell out that money to send their kids to private school?? The snazzy uniforms? It's sad that because this is all caused because adults can't tolerate the schools they went to " not getting a fair shake" athletically. Who cares if a kid uses his talent to give him and his parents a better situation? Is that really such a horrible thing? For reference I attended and played sports at both public and private schools.

The private school powerhouses (Curtis, Evangel, Parkview Baptist, etc) don't really place that many kids in the next level, and even fewer go to the pros. When was the last time you heard of a player from Curtis make it to the pros? The only ones I can think of are Reggie Dupard, Michael Stonebreaker, and Joe McKnight, and none of them were standouts in the NFL except for one year for McKnight, where he made All-Pro for Special Teams.

What makes Curtis so good is that these kids start there when they are in 5th grade or younger... and when they get to High School, they have been playing in the same system for years... that's what makes them good.

EXACTLY... over the past 25 years, TWENTY 5A state championships have been won by public schools! TWENTY!!!

Hahnville, Acadiana, Destrehan, West Monroe, etc... you think that any of these schools are afraid to play Curtis or Evangel?

When Evangel started playing in 5A is when all this mess started. The 5A publics were the architects of all this. Then when they were all sent down to 2A, the smaller schools came on board. There was also a proposal for private schools to play in an upper most division and it was vote down.

The 5A Public schools have the same advantage of all Private schools. They can accept or "recruit" kids from outside their schools districts because of "Minority-Majority". Since most 5A schools are in metro areas, that gives them access to far more athletes than rural schools. The combination of rural public schools with smaller private schools in the lower classifications is where any disadvantages ( perceived or not) are. Similar to the way Texas addresses private schools, the LHSAA should force all private schools into 5A & 4A. Private schools with 3A enrollment on up should play in 5A. Private schools with 2A on down should play in 4A. Private schools with B & C enrollments should be forced to play in 3A. Of course this will not happen because the public schools in 5A, 4A & 3A will still cry about having to play private schools.

Just go to a promotion/relegation concept like what is used in soccer. Problem solved for all involved. Forget about size of the school or public/private. Best teams go to highest division while weaker teams get moved down.

West Monroe is not a rural school. West Monroe is the affluent part of Monroe that is on the west side of the Ouchita River. They constantly bring in kids from Neville, Ouchita High and neighboring schools. They were one the schools that held back lots of 8th graders so that they would be one year older than football players in the same grade. Their facilities are among the best in the state.

Not the point, but the last classification numbers had Lafayette High as largest with 2500 students.

My apologies...I stand corrected.. I was looking at a very old sheet and didn't realize it..

West Monroe, Neville and Bastrop have recruited better than any of the Nola private schools ever has. I'd throw in Zachary for the Batin Rouge Metro area as well.

It's absolutely ridiculous to think that this is a public/private issue. You public school folks are absolutely delusional.
